-1-Blackmail-------ContrastofGoodandEvilIt'sastoryaboutthechiefhousedetectiveOgilvieblackmailedtheDukeandtheDuchessfortheydidthehit-and-run.TheconversationbetweentheDuchessandOgilviecoveredthewholestoryandthusmadethescenevivid.TheDukewasaBritishambassadortotheUnitedStateswhichmeanthewasarichandroyalperson.HerepresentedtheupperclassinAmerica,andsuchawell-educatedmandroveacarafterdrunkanddidnotwanttotaketheresponsibilityforthedeadgirls.Thesocietyatthattimehadmanyironies.ThiswasatypicalexampletoreflecttheridiculousAmericanphenomenonthatthenobilitiesweremeanandhadnosenseofshame.Actually,itwastheresultofthedecadentrealitiesofcontemporaryAmericancapitalism.Onthecontrary,thehousedetectiveOgilviewhohadthepiggyeyesandobesebodywasarepresentativepersontothecommons.Thesocietywasunderthethreatenoftheeconomiccrisis.Someworkersinthehotelcorruptedandstolenthingsforcountlesstimes.Wecouldseethatitwasthesocietyrealitiesthatforcedthecommonpeopledidtheillegalbehavior.Ofcourse,wecannotdenythattheevilmindexistedinthosepeople'swhostolenandcorruptedmindwasanotherfactorthatleadedthecrime.TheconversationsbetweentheDuchessandOgilviewereveryvivid.Thewordstheyselectedrepresentedtheirsocialclassandtheidentity.ThewordsthattheDuchessselectedsuchasconceivable,disgustingandridiculous,thesewordsweremoreformalandlessoral.Thesentences'grammarwasperfectandsodidthestructure.ThesewordsreflectedthattheDuchessandtheDukewerebothwell-educatedbuttheyhadnosenseofshame.ThewordsthatOgilvieselectedwereveryinformal,heusedalotofslangswhichwerenotsostrictwiththegrammarsuchashit-'n-run,sitan'listenandain't.ThesewordsreflectedthatOgilviewasarudeandimpoliteperson.Andhisfigurewasdescribedveryuglybecauseofhisinsatiablegreed.IbelievedthathewasatypicalexampleofgreedandlazypersonsinAmerica-2-whodidn'tworkhardandblackmailtherichesthroughtheirownrights.Throughthisstory,wecouldtellmanydiseasesofthecapitalismsociety.EspeciallythesharpcontrastbetweentheDukeandOgilvieshowedtheirownevilthoughtsandmeannatureofpersonalities.Butthiseviltransactionwasnotunique,thesameaccidenthappenedinChina,too.Thesonofapublicsecuritybureau'schiefdidahit-and-runandhehadnoguiltyforthedeadgirl.Whatthegovernmentshoulddowasnottoteachmathorsciencebuttoeducatedapersonhowtobeagoodpersonwhocoulddistinguishthegoodandtheevilfirstly.Marie
