TriggerFingerExercisesFingerAbduction1Thisroutineenhancesbloodcirculationtotheinjuredfinger.Italsostrengthensitssmallerligaments.Havetheinjuredfingerplacedsidebysidewithanormalfinger.Letthethumbandindexfingerofyourotherhandpressslightlythetwofingersplacedtogether.Thenapplyslightresistancetothetwofingersasyoumovethemapartusingyourindexfingerandthumb.Havetheresistanceadequateforthetwofingerstoseparate.FingerAbduction2Thisroutineworkssimilarlytotheabductionexercisewherebloodcirculationisenhancedandthesmallerligamentsarestrengthened.Separatetheinjuredfingerasfarawayfromtheclosestnormalfinger.AllowthetwofingerstoformaVposition.Havetheindexfingerandthumbofyourotherhandpushthetwofingersagainsttheotherfingers.Thenpressslightlythetwofingersbringingthemclosertogether.FingerExtensorStretchThisroutinewillmaketheaffectedfingermovingaftersurgery.Layflatthehandofyourinjuredfingeronasolidsurface.Letyouroppositehandholdtheinjuredfinger.Gentlyraisetheinjuredfingerupleavingtherestofyourfingersflatonthesurface.Continuetheliftuntilthefingerisslightlystretched.Letitstayforfewsecondsandallowtorest.Repeatwhenneeded.StretchesStretchingthehandwillconditionthemusclesforsomestrengtheningexercise.Stretchingalsorelievesswellingandmodifiesthepositionsofthefingers.Spreadyourfingersaswideasyoucan,andholditforafewseconds,andbringthemclosetogether.Youcanalsohaveyourfingersbentbackwards,andthenforward,holdingitforfewseconds.Positionyourthumbuprightandpushthethumbbacktostretchthejoint.Holdforafewseconds.Repeatthestretchingtillyourhandgetsfullyrelaxed.TendonGlidingTendonglidingexerciseswillimprovetheailmentbymakingthetendonsgentlyrunthroughthesurroundingsheathstoenhancelubrication.Spreadyourfingerswidelywhileyoucan,andslowlybendthemtoletittouchthepalmofyourhands.Youcanbeginbytouchingthetopofthepalm;spreadagainandmovedowntothemiddle;spreadagainthenmovetothebottom.Whenyouhavedonethisexercise,youcanhaveyourthumbtouchallyourfingertips,thendowntoyourpalm.Repeattheexercisewhenneededandperformslowly,pausingifyoufeelpain.Youcanalsohaveyourhandsimmersedinwarmwatertorelievethestiffnessoncetheexerciseisrepeated.StrengtheningThemusclesoftheforearmandwristmustbestrengthenedtocontrolhandmovements.Thishelpsbalancethehandmovementsandenhancetheefficiencyofthemotions.Havingstrengtheningexerciseswillincreasebloodflow,providewarmth,andspeeduptherecoveryfromthedisease.Youcanstartbypinchingthefingertipsandyourthumb.Placeanelasticbandaroundthem.Separateyourfingersfromyourthumb,makingthebandfairlytight.Allowittostayinplaceonyourfingersandthumb.Makearepetitivepumpingmotiontoextendthefingersandthumbawayandclosetoeachotheragainandagain.Youshouldapplytensionontheelasticduringthewholeexercise.Repeattheroutineasnecessary.Haveyourfingersandthumbbenttowardsyourpalmandhooktheelasticbandinthemiddle.Letyourotherhandpulltheendofthebandandallowslighttension.Straightenyourfingersagainstthetension.
