MyViewsonLearningtoTeachBeforeIexpressmyopinionsonlearningtoteach,IwouldliketoshowmysincerethankstoalltheMAprogramteachers,especiallyMrs.Shu,whotaughtusmanyfundamentaltheoriesandknowledgeaboutforeignlanguageteachingtous.ItisyouthatmademebelieveIcouldbeagoodEnglishteacherinthecomingfuture.YouandotherteacherssatgreatexamplestoourMAstudents.Actually,IhadmanyinterviewsforthepositionofEnglishteacherinmanyEnglishteachinginstitutionslikeWebb,NewOrientalinthesummerholidaybeforecameintoCCNU.Tomydisappointment,Ishouldfailinallthoseinterviews.IfeltveryconfusedandunfairbecauseIhadtriedmybesttoshowmyexpertiseinEnglishteaching,standardpronunciation,funnyintalking,smilingface.Everythingseemedgoodenough.Ididn'tfindthekeytothequestionuntilIhadyourclassesandreadyourbooks.FromyourclassesandyourbookModernForeignlanguageTeachingMethodology,IfinallyrealizedthatthereasonwhyIfailedwasthatmyunderstandingtowardsEnglishteachingisfartoosuperficial.TherewerehundredsofinstructionaltheoriesthatIhadnevertouchedbefore.Havingtheabilitytomakeasentencewiththeadverbialclausedidn'tmeanIcanmakemystudentsunderstoodtheusagesofadverbialclause.Knowingthemostusefulwayofrepresentingtheideaofadverbialclause,themostpowerfulillustrationsandanalogiesforrepresentingtheconcept,thekindsofquestionsthathelptorevealanddevelopunderstandingoftheknowledgemustlieonthebasisofteachingtheories.Now,thetheoriesputbyChomskyandStephenKrashenmakemegetthechemistryofreliableteacher.Englishteachingisacomplexprocess,theoriescanleadawayout.Therefore,inmyfutureteaching,Ishouldequipmyselfwiththeoreticalknowledgewhichoffersmeopportunitiestomakeprogress.Inthissemester,LiangYupeng,DaiQingandIworkasapart-timeteacherinHubeiYouthVocationalCollege.Thankstothenaughtystudentsthere,Igotagreatdealofrealsituatedexperience.Istillrememberedthefirstdaythere,infact,itwasthefirsttimeIstoodontheteachingstage.Iwasverynervousandafraidofmakingmistakes.Unfortunately,unexpectedthingsfinallyhappened,astudentstoodupandaskedmeifhecangooutoftheclassroomandgethisparcel.Ihadnevermetthiskindofthingbefore,soIhesitatedaboutwhattodoforafewseconds,whenIbacktomyself,thestudentalreadygone.What'sworse,anotherstudenttoldmehehaveaphonecalltoanswerandwentoutoftheclassroomwithoutmypermission.Later,agirllefttheclassroomwithoutaword.Youcanneverimagethesituationthat,myfirstclass,4studentslefttheclassroomandneverback.Itisatotallyadisastertome,Icouldn'thelpbutwondering,wasmyclasstooboringtothem?DidIlooksoforcelessandkind?ThatnightImadethedecisionthatIshouldfirstlydosomethingtomakeaseriousimpressiononthem.Sointhebeginningofthenextclass,Imadeanannouncementthatifastudentlefttheclassroombutdidn'tbackwithin5minutes,Iwillputablackmarkonhisname.Ifsomeonegot3blackmarks,hewillabsolutelyfailinthefinalexam!Thisactionreallyworkedonmystudents,theyhaveneverskippedtheEnglishclassagain.Whendealingwiththebadboysthere,theytaughtmethatwhentheyweretooquietandshyinansweringmyquestion,Icouldpickoutacandyfrommypocketasanincentive;Whentherewasastudentwhotalkedtoomuchintheclass,Ishouldinvitehimtodoroleplaynexttime;whensomestudentswerealwayslatefortheclass,Iwouldaskthemtosingasongforus.Ishouldthanktotheboysactually,theyhavemademeanexperiencedteacherwhocanhandledifferentsituationsinclassnow.DuringtheMAprogramstudy,besidestheoriesandexperience,Igainedotherthings,too.Thatiswhyandhowtoreflect.Itisknownlearningisareflectingprocess,soasteaching.Whenoutofthecircle,onecanseeeverythingmoreclearly.So,toreflectistoseeeverythingmoreclearly.Weshouldoftenstopandthink,askourselvesquestions,whatdidIdointhepastdays?Whatcanmystudentslearnfromme?WhatcanIlearnfrommystudents?Whatcanstudentslearnbesidethetextbooks?Arethereanybetterwaystoteach?Aremystudentshappynow?Thosereflectingquestionscanhelpusworkontherighttrack.NowIwillwritedownthosequestionsonthefirstpageofmynotebook,whenIgettired,juststopandthink.IntheMAprogram,wenotonlylearntoteach,butalsoneedtodoresearches.Inmyopinion,doingresearchonteachingcanprovideusmanyinsightsofteaching;itisakindoflearning,too.Butaspre-serviceteachers,wehavenofieldtodoresearchandinexperiencedinresearch.Thankstothekind-heartedin-serviceteachers,theyhelpedusalot.Theyinvitedustolistentotheirclassesandallowedustoinvitetheirstudentstofillinourquestionnaires,theyprovidedusmanyusefulbooksandresearchmethods.Withouttheircooperation,researchwouldbeahugechallengetous.Whatcanbetterillustratelearningtoteachisacollaborativeprocessisthat,wecanseeourfuturesinthem,theycanseenewthingsinus.DongXianalwaystoldusitwasverynecessarytobuildagoodrelationshipwithstudents'parents.WangLiangyusuggestedustodomoreexercisesafterclassbecauseteachersneedastrongbody.MinChengtaughtusteachersshouldhaveagoodknowledgeonothersubject,likescience,musicandart.Itoldthemmircoblogscanhelpteachersgetbetterunderstandingandcommunicationwithstudents.Whenworkcollaborativelywitheachother,bothofusbenefitfromthisprocess.Learningtoteachisacollaborativeeffort,weshouldcooperatewithotherteachers,classmates,ofcourse,themostimportantcooperatorisourstudents;learningtoteachisareflectiveprocess,weshouldo
