Dearsirormadam,I’msoexcitedtohavetheopportunitytostudyintheUniversityofSheffield,especiallytohavethechancetoapplyforthescholarshipofyourschool.AndIreallycherishthisopportunity.AsanundergraduateofCivilEngineering,I’malwayseagertopurchaseanychancestostudynaturalscience,SocialSciences,andthehumanities,andtoputmyknowledgeintopractice.SincethemajorCivilEngineeringisreallyacomprehensivedisciplineanditlinksallthehumanactivitiestogether.Whenweneedtobuildanewconstructioninacertainplace,weneedtoconsiderwhatthepeoplewilldo,whatnaturaldisasterswillthreatenit,evenhowseriousterroristattacksitcanbear.Thismeansthatacivilengineeringstudentneedstocompletehisorherframeworkofknowledgeaboutrelevantdisciplines.IrealizeditwhenIenteredthecollegeformyundergraduateprogram.SoIpaidattentiontoothersubjectsrelevanttocivilengineering,suchasbiology,geographyandphytology.Becauseakindofcreaturesinacertainareawilltellyouhowtheenvironmentis.Andtheknowledgeofgeographyshowsthedifferentnaturaldisastersindifferentareas.Inaddition,phytologyhelpsyoutocognizewhatkindofsoilinacertainareabycognizingtheplants,withoutanalyzingthesoilundertheground.Allthisinformationhelpspeopledesignnewconstructionsinacertaincondition.Besides,theyhelpyoutomaketaller,stronger,morespacious,andmorepowerfulconstructions.Anexcellentstructuralengineeroughttobepracticallyexperienced.Inordertobecomeacapableengineer,weneedtopracticeattheconstructionsiteandthearchitecturaldesigninstitute.So,IbegantotrytofindanychancestotakeanengineeringpracticeinTheArchitecturalDesignandResearchInstituteofHITfromthisyearon.Inthisinstitute,oneofthebestarchitecturaldesignandresearchinstitutesinChina,notonlycanIlearntheprofessionalknowledge,butalsoIcanlearnhowtocooperatewithmycolleagues,howtogetalongwellwithmyleaders,andhowtodealwiththeworkinthisinstitutewellwhileIamdoingmygraduationproject.Ireallyfeltthattheengineeringpracticecouldmakememorecapableandmoreexperienced,aswellasclosermydream.Wheneverwemakeadesignofaconstruction,wemusttaketheresponsibilityforthesecurityofpeople’slivesandassets.Thismeansthatwehavenochoicebuttomakethedesignseriously.What’smore,thecoursewhichIchosecanmakemeafeelingofbothachievementandpride.Sincedesigningandbuildingnewconstructionsistochangetheaspectoftheworldandthestyleinwhichpeoplelive.Naturally,thedesireforCivilEngineeringurgesmetopursuefurtherstudy.IwasreallyexcitedwhenIgottheofferfromtheUniversityofSheffield,especiallywhenIknewthatIhadtheopportunitytoapplyforthescholarshipinyourschool.DuetomycrazinessandenthusiasmaboutCivilEngineering,IconfirmthatIcanmakeawealthofcontributiontomyuniversityandtothesocietyafterIgraduate.Ihavealreadycultivatedastudiousattitude,criticalthinkingandskillonresearchduringmyundergraduatestudy.Sofar,IhavebeenconfidentinmyacademicperformanceinMScprogram.WhenIstepouttheUniversityofSheffieldaftermyMScstudy,Iwilltrymybesttocreatenewtechniquesformyprofessionalareaandmakemycontributiontosociety.Hopefully,mycareerachievementwillbenefitthecorrespondingpeopleandpromotethereputationofmyUniversityofSheffield.
