PITHA94/15TTP94{03Marh1994ATransientNewCoherentConditionofMatter:TheSignalforNewPhysisinHadroniDirativeSatteringSaulBarshaya)andPatrikHeiligerb)a)III.PhysikalishesInstitut(A),RWTHAahenD{52056Aahen,Germanyb)InstitutfurTheoretisheTeilhenphysikUniversitatKarlsruheD{76128Karlsruhe,GermanyAbstratWedemonstratetheexisteneofananomalousstrutureinthedataonthedirativeelastisatteringofhadronsathighenergiesandsmallmomentumtransfer.Weanalyzevesetsofexperimentaldataonp(p)psatteringfromvedierentexperimentswithollidingbeams,rangingfromtherst{andseond{generationexperimentsatps=53GeVtothemostreentexperi-mentsat546GeVandat1800GeV.Allofthedatasetsexhibitaloalizedanomalousstrutureinmomentumtransfer.Werepresenttheanomalousbe-haviorbyaphenomenologialformula.Thisisbasedupontheideathata1transientoherentonditionofmatteroursinsomeoftheintermediatein-elastistateswhihgiverise,viaunitarity,todirativeelastisattering.TheFourier{Besseltransformintomomentum{transferspaeofaspatialos-illatorybehaviorofmatterintheimpat{parameterplaneresultsinasmallpieeofthedirativeamplitudewhihexhibitsaloalizedanomalousbe-haviornearadenitevalueoft.Weemphasizeinaddition,possiblesignalsomingdiretlyfromsuhanewonditionofmatter,thatmaybepresentinurrentexperimentsoninelastiproesses.2Thereexistsananomalousstrutureinthedirativeelastisatteringofhadronsathighenergiesandsmallmomentumtransfer.Thisanomalyexistsinatleastvesetsofexperimentaldatafromvedierentexperimentsonp(p)psattering.Theseexperimentshavebeenperformedwithollidingbeamsoveraperiodofsometwentyyears,atenter{of{massenergies,ps,equalto53GeV[1℄,[2℄,[3℄,546GeV[4℄,[5℄and1800GeV[6℄.Theanomalousbehaviorinthedierentialrossse-tiononsistsofasmall,narrowpeakatapointneartoafour{momentumtransfert’0:08(GeV/)2.Thisisfollowedbyamarkeddipneart’0:10(GeV/)2andbyasubsequentnarrowpeakattintherange0:120:16(GeV/)2.Theanomalousbehavioranbeexhibitedbytakingtheratiooftheexperimentaldatatoagood{t,smoothly{varyingtheoretialorphenomenologialrepresentationofallofthedataatsmallmomentumtransfers.Itanalsobeexhibitedinabsolutevaluebytakingthedierenebetweentheexperimentaldataandthesmoothly{varyingtheoretialrepresentation.ThisisseeninFig.1whih,forillustration,wereproduefromanearlyanalysis[7℄oftheapparentanomalyinthedatafromtherst{generationolliderexperimentat53GeV[1℄,[8℄.Inthispaperweanalyzethenewppdata[5℄at541GeVfromtheUA4/2experimentatCERNandtheppdata[6℄at1800GeVfromtheE{710experimentatFermilab.Wealsoanalyzethedata[4℄at546GeVfromtheoriginalUA4experiment.Wegobakandanalyzetheveryextensiveppdataat53GeVfromtheseond{generationexperimentattheCERNintersetingstoragerings.Wendthataloalizedanomalousbehaviorispresentinallofthesesetsofdata.Italsoappearstobepresentinthexed{targetexperiments3performedatFermilabwithveryhighstatistis[9℄onpelastisatteringat200GeV/,(ommenteduponfurtherbelow).Onthebasisofthepresentanalysisofthedata,weonsiderthatthereisevideneforanunusualphenomenonwhihisgivingasignalinhadronidirativesattering.Thisisprobablynewphysis.Guidedbyadenitephysialpossibility[7℄,werepresenttheanomalousbehaviorinthedatabyaphenomenologialformula.Theideaisthatinthephysialintermediatestateswhihourfromthedominantinelastiproessesthatgiverise,viaunitarity,todirativeelastisattering,thereisasmallfrationinvolvingtheformationofaoherentonditioninhadronimatter.Thissystemisrelativelylong{livedduetosmalleetiveveloitiesforsignalpropagationwithinit.Thesystembeomesextendedovertheimpat{parameterplane.Inthisplane,thereourswithinthesystemaoherentosillatorybehaviorofmatter,haraterizedbyadenitenon{zeromomentum.TheFourier{Besseltransformofthisspatialosillatorybehaviorintomomentum{transferspaegivesrisetoasmallpieeofthedirativeampli-tudewhihexhibitsaloalizedanomalousbehaviornearadenitevalueoft.Anosillatorybehaviorintoursintheregionnearthisvalue.Thisisbeauseoftheapproximateloalizationoftheenterofmassoftheoherentsystemwhihmovestoadistantpointalongtheollisionaxisbeforethesystembreaksdownintopions.Inonludingweemphasizeinadditionpossiblesignalsomingdiretlyfromsuhaoherentsystem,signalswhihmaybepresentinpastandurrentexperimentsoninelastiproesses[10℄,[11℄,[12℄.4ToaugmentFig.1,webeginourpresentanalysisbyexhibitinginFig.2theratiooftheexperimentaldierentialrosssetiondel(pp)dtat53GeV,fromtheseond{generationISRexperiment[2℄,[3℄toagoodtheoretialrepresentation[13℄,[14℄(ona2{basis[F1℄)ofallofthedatafromt’0tot’2(GeV/)2.InFig.2asinFig.1,weareonentratingouranalysisontheregionofahypothetial,quiteloalizedanomalousbehavior,thatistheregion0:07t0:2(GeV/)2.InFig.2oneobservestheanomalousstruture,thesameasthatinFig.1.Withabigjumpinenergy,weturntothenewUA4/2data[5℄fordel(pp)dtat541GeV.InFig.3weshowtheratioofthisdatatoagoodtheoretialrepresentation[13℄,[14℄,[15℄(againona2{basis)ofallofthedata[F2℄.ThedatafromtheUA4/2experimentstopsatthelastinterval[F3℄0:117t0:12(GeV/)2.WepromptlyaugmentthisdatawiththedatafromtherstUA4experiment[4℄at546GeV;theratioisshowninFig.4fortherelevantregion0:07t0:2(GeV/)2.Aspetsoftheanomalousstrutureat53GeVappearagaininthedatafromthetwos
