TheOpinionofSchoolBullyingCONTENTS•Part1:Introduction•Part2:CurrentSituationandTreatment•Part3:ConclusionandSuggestionPartoneIntroductionOnFeb.17,thesentenceof“ChineseNationalStudentsBullyingCase”whichChinesenetizensfocusonwasannounced.DefendantZhaiYunyaowassentencedto13yearsinstateprison,whileherco-defendantZhangXinleiwasgivenasixyearprisonsentence.Thethirddefendant,YangYuhan,wassentencedto10yearsinstateprison.ChineseNationalStudentsBullyingCaseDeputyDistrictAttorneyCaseyJarvis,whoprosecutedthecase,saidonMarch28(2015)defendantsZhaiandZhangassaulteda16-year-oldgirlataRowlandHeightsparkandrestaurant.Duringtheattack,Zhaipunchedandslappedthevictim.Twodayslater,Zhai,ZhangandYangkidnappedan18-year-oldgirlfromHoneymeeinRowlandHeightsandtookhertoRowlandHeightsCountryPark.Whileatthepark,thevictimwasstrippednakedandrepeatedlybeaten,spaton,punched,kickedandburnedwithcigarettesinanassaultthatlastedoverfivehours.Zhangprovidedscissorstocutthevictim’shair,whichshewasthenforcedtoeat.Thelocalmediasaid,“It’srareintheUScriminalcase.”WecouldfindthattheseatrocitiesarecommoninChineseschoolbullying.Butthebulliesareseldompunishedbylawenforcement.Manycasesofbullyingaresettledamongparentsandschools.Apparently,thepunishmentsuchaswarninganddemeritrecordingfromschoolisnoteffectiveenough.Thecrimecostofbulliesistoolow.Lawcan’tbea“bystander”inschoolbullyingcase.Legalpunishmentisasimportantaseducation.PartTwoCurrentSituationandTreatmentPhysicalPunching,hitting,slamming,socking,spitting,slappingVerbalPutdowns,nastystatements,namecalling,taunting,racialslurs,orhurtfulcomments,threateningEmotionalExcluding,shunning,spreadingrumorsormeangossip,ruiningyourreputationSexualSayingordoingthingsthataredisrespectfulinasexualwayCyberUsingtheinternet,socialmedia,textmessaging,emailandotherelectronicmediumstosaymeanorembarrassingthingsbAsyoucansee,schoolviolenceinourcountryhasincreasedinafluctuatingtendency.BullyinginChinaneedstobetreatedurgently.Recently17yearsoldgirlofXianTechnicianInstitutewasbulliedby5girlssheroomingwith.Andshesufferedfromdepression.Whensomeoneapproached,shebecamequitenervous,tremblingallover.Andjustkeepsaying:Don'thitmeplease,IknowIwaswrong.”Whatshereactedjustbecausewhatsheaccepted.Theytorturedher,Slappedherwithslippers,forcedhertodance.Afterthattheyshotvideoandsentittoothers.Ifsherefused,theywillbeatherupafterlightsout.Socruelbutthebulliesareonlydeservedseriouswarningsandgivendemerit.Comparedwiththeabove-mentionedAmerica’scase,bullies,youshouldbegladyou'renotinAmerica.Throughoutthosetwocases,wethinktodealwithbullying,educationandlawisequallyimportant.DifferentcountriesholddifferentviewstohandleSchoolbullying.Americanlawpunishthebullyseverelywithoutmercy.Westerncountriescan’tstandverbalandphysicalabuse.ThesubjectofbullyingincriminallawconvictedoffelonyinAmerica.Ifitcausedseriousconsequences,evenundertheageof18,itcanbeusedasadultcriminalcases.AsfarasChinaisconcerned,treatmentofbully,educationisheldessentialwithpunishmentasasupplement.Inmostcases,eveniftheschoolauthoritiesandthepolicesteppedin,thepunishmentofthebullyisoftenmuchlighter.Theyusuallydoitprivatelythroughcompensation.Thisperhapsthereasonwhydomesticbullyingcaserepeated.Criticismoreducationisnotenoughtodealwithbullying,lawisalsoneeded.PartThreeConclusionandSuggestion•InChina,mostofschoolbullyingcasesarenotuptothestandardofthecrime.Emotionalbullying,verbalbullyingandcyberbullyingcoulddestroyavictim'slife.Butthemajorityofthosebulliesarelegallyguiltlessandthey'recostfree.Inthissituation,thosebullieshaveconvincedthemtheycanactwithoutpunishment.Conclusion•Asweknow,Chinesestudentshavebeentoldtheyshouldbefriendlytootherssincethey’reyoung.Buteducationisnotenoughtopreventtheschoolbulling.Webelievethelegaldefectsinschoolbullingistheprimaryreason.Wehavetoletthosebulliesknow“Ifyouhurtsomeone,wewon’ttolerateit.Andschoolbullyingisnotonlyajoke.”ConclusionSuggestion•1.activelyimplementthelegislationforschoolsafety•2.establishandperfecttheschoolsafetymanagementsystem•3.strengthentheschoolsafetyworkandimprovesafetyawareness•4.establishandimprovetheschoolsafetymanagementinstitution,clearmanagementresponsibility•5.creatfamilies,schools,governmenttheinteractivecooperationenvironmentSuggestionEnding
