Appendix5AJORCCodeCodeisinnormaltypeface,guidelinesareinindenteditalics,definitionsareinbold.17/12/2004Appendix5APage1Appendix5AAustralasianCodeforReportingofExplorationResults,MineralResourcesandOreReserves(TheJORCCode)Introduced1/7/96.Origin:Appendix17.Amended1/9/99,17/12/2004AUSTRALIANINSTITUTEOFGEOSCIENTISTSSupportingGeoscientistsPreparedbytheJointOreReservesCommitteeofTheAustralasianInstituteofMiningandMetallurgy,AustralianInstituteofGeoscientistsandMineralsCouncilofAustralia(JORC)Effective:17December2004Appendix5AJORCCodeCodeisinnormaltypeface,guidelinesareinindenteditalics,definitionsareinbold.17/12/2004Appendix5APage2Foreword1.TheAustralasianCodeforReportingofExplorationResults,MineralResourcesandOreReserves(the‘JORCCode’or‘theCode’)setsoutminimumstandards,recommendationsandguidelinesforPublicReportinginAustralasiaofExplorationResults,MineralResourcesandOreReserves.TheJointOreReservesCommittee(‘JORC’)wasestablishedin1971andpublishedseveralreportscontainingrecommendationsontheclassificationandPublicReportingofOreReservespriortothereleaseofthefirsteditionoftheJORCCodein1989.RevisedandupdatededitionsoftheCodewereissuedin1992,1996and1999.This2004editionsupersedesallpreviouseditions.ConcurrentlywiththeevolutionoftheJORCCode,theCombinedReservesInternationalReportingStandardsCommittee(‘CRIRSCO’),initiallyacommitteeoftheCouncilofMiningandMetallurgicalInstitutions(‘CMMI’),has,since1994,beenworkingtocreateasetofstandardinternationaldefinitionsforreportingMineralResourcesandMineral(Ore)Reserves,modelledonthoseoftheJORCCode.Representativesofbodiesfromparticipatingcountries(Australia,Canada,SouthAfrica,USAandUK)reachedprovisionalagreementonstandarddefinitionsforreportingin1997.Thiswasfollowedin1998byanagreementtoincorporatetheCMMIdefinitionsintotheInternationalFrameworkClassificationforReservesandResources–SolidFuelsandMineralCommodities,developedbytheUnitedNationsEconomicCommissionforEurope(‘UN-ECE’).AsaresultoftheCRIRSCO/CMMIinitiative,considerableprogresshasbeenmadetowardswidespreadadoptionofconsistentreportingstandardsthroughouttheworld.Theseareembodiedinthesimilarcodes,guidelinesandstandardspublishedandadoptedbytherelevantprofessionalbodiesinAustralia,Canada,SouthAfrica,USA,UK,IrelandandmanycountriesinEurope.ThedefinitionsinthiseditionoftheJORCCodeareeitheridenticalto,ornotmateriallydifferentfrom,thoseinternationaldefinitions.Introduction2.InthiseditionoftheJORCCode,importanttermsandtheirdefinitionsarehighlightedinboldtext.TheguidelinesareplacedaftertherespectiveCodeclausesusingindenteditalics.Theyareintendedtoprovideassistanceandguidancetoreaders.TheydonotformpartoftheCode,butshouldbeconsideredpersuasivewheninterpretingtheCode.IndenteditalicsarealsousedforAppendix1–‘GenericTermsandEquivalents’,andTable1–‘CheckListofAssessmentandReportingCriteria’tomakeitclearthattheyarealsopartoftheguidelines,andthatthelatterisnotmandatoryforreportingpurposes.3.TheCodehasbeenadoptedbyTheAustralasianInstituteofMiningandMetallurgy(‘TheAusIMM’)andtheAustralianInstituteofGeoscientists(‘AIG’)andisthereforebindingonmembersofthoseorganisations.ItisendorsedbytheMineralsCouncilofAustralia,andtheSecuritiesInstituteofAustraliaasacontributiontogoodpractice.TheCodehasalsobeenadoptedbyandincludedinthelistingrulesoftheAustralian(‘ASX’)andNewZealand(‘NZX’)StockExchanges.TheASXandNZXhave,since1989and1992respectively,incorporatedtheCodeintotheirlistingrules.Undertheselistingrules,aPublicReportmustbepreparedinaccordancewiththeCodeifitincludesastatementonExplorationResults,MineralResourcesorOreReserves.TheincorporationoftheCodeimposescertainspecificrequirementsonminingorexplorationcompaniesreportingtotheASXandNZX.The2004editionoftheCodehasincludedmuchofAppendix5AJORCCodeCodeisinnormaltypeface,guidelinesareinindenteditalics,definitionsareinbold.17/12/2004Appendix5APage3therelevantmaterialpreviouslyfoundonlyinthelistingrulesconcerningthereportingofExplorationResultsandthenamingoftheCompetentPerson.DespitetheinclusionofthismaterialintheCodeitisstronglyrecommendedthatusersoftheCodefamiliarisethemselveswiththoselistingruleswhichrelatetoPublicReportingofExplorationResults,MineralResourcesandOreReserves.TheJORCCoderequirestheCompetentPerson(s),onwhoseworkthePublicReportofExplorationResults,MineralResourcesorOreReservesisbased,tobenamedinthereport.Thereportorattachedstatementmustsaythatthepersonconsentstotheinclusioninthereportofthemattersbasedontheirinformationintheformandcontextinwhichitappears,andmustincludethenameoftheperson’sfirmoremployer.RefertoClause8oftheCode.Scope4.ThemainprinciplesgoverningtheoperationandapplicationoftheJORCCodearetransparency,materialityandcompetence.TransparencyrequiresthatthereaderofaPublicReportisprovidedwithsufficientinformation,thepresentationofwhichisclearandunambiguous,tounderstandthereportandisnotmisled.MaterialityrequiresthataPublicReportcontainsalltherelevantinformationwhichinvestorsandtheirprofessionaladviserswouldreasonablyrequire,andreasonablyexpecttofindinthereport,forthepurposeofmakingareasonedandbalanced
