艾玛沃特森联合国演讲稿（中英文）YourexcellenceUNSecretary-General,PresidentoftheGeneralAssembly,ExecutiveDirectorofUNWomen,AnddistinguishedguestsTodaywearelaunchingacampaigncalledHeForShe.Iamreachingouttoyoubecauseweneedyourhelp,wewanttoendgenderinequality.Andtodothis,weneedeveryoneinvolved.ThisisthefirstcampaignofitskindattheUN.Wewanttotrytogalvanizeasmanymenandboysaspossibletobeadvocatesforchange，andwedon’tjustwanttotalkaboutit,Wewanttotryandmakesurethatit’stangibleIwasappointedasGoodwillAmbassadorforUNWomensixmonthsago，andthemoreI’vespokenaboutfeminism,themoreIhaverealizedthatfightingforwomen’srighthastoooftenbecomesynonymouswithmen-hatingIfthereisonethingIknowforcertainitisthatthishastostopFortherecordfeminismbydefinitionisthebeliefthatmenandwomenshouldhaveequalrightsandopportunities,ItisthetheoryofthepoliticaleconomicandsocialequalityofthesexesIstartedquestioninggender-basedassumptionsalongtimeagoWhenIwas8,Iwasconfusedaboutbeingcalled”bossy”,becauseIwantedtodirecttheplays,thatwewouldputonforourparents，buttheboyswerenotWhenat14,Istartedtobesexualisedbycertainelementsofthemedia,Whenat15mygirlfriendsstarteddroppingoutoftheirbelovedsportsteams,becausetheydidn’twanttoappearmuscle-yWhenat18mymalefriendswereunabletoexpresstheirfeelingsIdecidedthatIwasafeminist，andthisseemsuncomplicatedtomeButmyrecentresearchhasshownmethatfeminismhasbecomeanunpopularword，womenarechoosingnottoidentifyasfeminists.ApparentlyIamamongtheranksofwomenwhoseexpressionsareseenastoostrong“tooaggressive”,isolatingandanti-men,unattractive,evenWhyhasthewordbecomesuchanuncomfortableoneIamformBritain,andIthinkitiswrightthatIampaidthesameasmymalecounterparts,IthinkitiswrightthatIshouldbeabletomakedecisionsaboutmyownbody,Ithinkitisrightthatwomenbeinvolvedonmybehalfinthepoliciesandthedecisionsthataffectmylife,Ithinkitisrightthatsocially,IamaffordedthesamerespectasmenButsadlyIcansaythatthereisnoonecountryintheworldwhereallwomencanexpecttoreceivetheserights.Nocountryintheworldcanyetsaythattheyhaveachievedgenderequality,theserightsIconsidertobehumanrightsButIamoneoftheluckyones,mylifeisasheerprivilege,becausemyparentsdidn’tlovemelessbecauseIwasbornadaughter,MyschooldidnotlimitmebecauseIwasagirl,mymentordidn’tassumethatIwouldgolessfarbecauseImightgivebirthtoachildonedayTheseinfluencerswerethegenderequalityambassadorsthatmademewhoIamtoday,theymaynotknowit,buttheyaretheinadvertentfeminists,weneedmoreofthoseandifyoustillhatetheword,itisnotthewordthatisimportant,it’stheideaandtheambitionbehindit,becausenotallwomenhavereceivedthesamerightsthatIhave.InfactstatisticallyveryfewhavebeenIn1997HillaryClintonmadeafamousspeechinBeijingaboutwomen’srights,Sadlymanyofthethingsthatshewantedtochange,arestilltruetoday.Butwhatstoodoutformethemostwasthatlessthan30percentoftheaudienceweremaleHowcanweaffectchangeintheworldwhenonlyhalfofitisinvitedorfeelwelcometoparticipantintheconversation.MenIwouldliketotakethisopportunitytoextendyourformalinformation,GenderequalityisyourissuetooBecausetodateI’veseenmyfather’sroleasaparentbeingvaluedlessbysociety,despitemyneedinghispresenceasachildasmuchasmymother’s.I’veseenyoungmensufferingfrommentalillnessunabletoaskforhelp,forfearitwouldmakethemlessofman,orlessofaman.InfactintheU.K.suicideisthebiggestkillerofmanbetween20to49eclipsingroadaccidents,cancerandcoronaryheartdiseaseIhaveseenmenmadefragileandinsecurebyadistortedsenseofwhatconstitutesmalesuccess,mendon’thavethebenefitsofequalityeitherWedon’toftentalkaboutmenbeingimprisonedbygenderstereotypes,butIcanseethattheyareWhentheyarefreethingswillchangeforwomenasanaturalconsequence,Ifmendon’thavetobeaggressiveinordertobeaccepted,womenwon’tbecompelledtobesubmissive,ifmendon;thavetocontrol,womenwon’thavetobecontrolledBothmenandwomenshouldfeelfreetobesensitive,bothmenandwomenshouldfeelfreetobestrongItistimethatweallperceivegenderonaspectruminsteadoftwosetsofopposingidealsIfweshouldstopdefiningeachotherbywhatwearenotandstartdefiningourselvesbywhoweare,wecanallbefreerandthisiswhatHeForSheisabout,It’saboutfreedomIwantmentotakeupthismantlesotheirdaughterssistersandmotherscanbefreefromprejudice,butalsosotheirsonshavepermissiontobevulnerableandhumantooWeclaimthosepartsofthemselvestheyabandonedandindoingsobeamoretrueandcompleteversionofthemselvesYoumightbethinkingwhoisthisHarryPottergirlandwhatisshedoingspeakingattheU.N.Andit’sreallygoodquestion,I’vebeenaskingmyselfthesamething,AllIknowisthatIcareaboutthisproblemandIwanttomakeitbetter,AndhavingseenwhatI’veseen,andgiventhechance,IfellitismyresponsibilitytosaysomethingStatesmenEdmundBurkesaidallthatisneededfortheforcesofeviltotriumphisforgoodmenandwomentodonothingInmynervousnessforthisspeechandinmymomentofdoubt,I’vetoldmyselffirmly,ifnotme,who?Ifnotnow,when？Ifyouhavesimilardoubtswhenopportunitiesarepresentedtoyou,Ihopethatthosewordswillbehelpful,becausetherealityisthatifwedonothingitwilltake75yearsorformeortobenearly100beforewomancanexpecttobepaidthesameasmenforthesamework15.5milliongirlswillbemarriedinthenext16yearsaschildrenandatthecurrentrates,itwon’tbeuntil208
