HybridPulsePowerCharacteristicRevisionHistoryTableofContentsRevisionHistory...................................................................................................................................................2TableofContents................................................................................................................................................21TestOutline..................................................................................................................................................32TestProcedure.............................................................................................................................................32.1Step1–CassetteScreening...................................................................................................................32.2Step2–AutomatedTestCycle...............................................................................................................32.3DataProcessing......................................................................................................................................82.4TestSequence........................................................................................................................................92.5PASS/FAILTestLimits..........................................................................................................................102.6TestOverviewProcessChart................................................................................................................112.7SafetyLimits.........................................................................................................................................122.8Reporting..............................................................................................................................................121TestOutlineThecoolantmanifoldandthehydrogenventmanifoldofthebatteryunitarepressuretestedorinspectedtoensureproperinstallation.Oncethistestiscomplete,thebatteryunitisconditionedbychargingthebatteriestoapproximatelyfullcapacityandthenbalancingthebatterieswithasmallovercharge.ThetruecapacityisthendeterminedbydischargingthebatteryunittoacertainvoltageandkeepingtrackofthecumulativeAmp-Hours.Oncethecapacityisdetermined,thebatteryunitischargedbackto100%SOC(basedonmeasuredtruecapacity)andtheHybridPulsePowerCharacterization(HPPC)testisrun.TheHPPCtestissplitintoadischargecycleandachargecycle.OncetheHPPCcyclehascompletedthebatteryisdischargedto60%SOCandthetestingiscomplete.ThedatacollectedduringtheconditioningandcapacitytestsisusedtoassessavailableenergywhiletheHPPCtestwillyieldestimatesof:•Dynamicvoltagecharacteristics•OpenCircuitVoltage(OCV)characteristics•Burst(1sec)andpulse(10sec)internalresistanceasafunctionofStateOfCharge(SOC)•Burst(1sec)andpulse(10sec)powerasafunctionofSOCThesevalueswillbeusedtoensuretheassembledunitmeetsspecificationsandtobenchmarkthebatteriesBeginningofLife(BoL)performanceforon-goingtechnologyassessmentsandwarranteenegotiationswiththebatterysupplier.2TestProcedureTheperformancetestswillbeautomatedandconductedinaspecificsequenceasdescribedinthefollowingsections.2.1Step1–CassetteScreeningPriortoassemblyofthebatterymodule,thetwocassettestobeassembledintotheseries24Vstringwillhavetobescreened.Toscreenthemodules,thefollowingstepsshouldbetaken:`1.Select2cassettesforassembly(theyshouldbefromthesameshipmentbatchandmaybelabeledassuch)2.Withanaccuratedigitalvoltmeter(Flukeorequivalent),measurethevoltageacrosseach12Vmoduleineach5modulecassette.3.Thereshouldbenomorethana100mVdifferencebetweenany2modules.Ideallyvoltagesarewithin20mV.4.Ifthemodulevoltagesbetweencassettesexceedthe100mV,adifferent2ndcassetteshouldbeselectedandassessedforvoltagecompatibilitywiththefirst.5.Ifvoltagesarewithintolerances,proceedtostep2.2.2Step2–AutomatedTestCycleThefollowingoutlinestheautomatedtestprofileforonechannelofthecycler.Thetestprofileforthesecondchannelisidenticalandshouldberunindependently(testsequencingcanbesynchronizedbuttestcurrentmaybedifferentdependingontheidentifiedtruecapacityoftheindividualunits).Theautomatedtesthas3majorcomponentstoberunsequentially:1.Conditioning/CapacityCycle:TheConditioning/CapacityCycleconsistsofafulldischargeat43AuntilthebatteryvoltagereachestheLowVoltage(LV)limit.Thedischargeisfollowedbyatimedchargeat43Aand14.3Afor1hour(thisshouldtheoreticallyreturnthefullcapacityofthebattery).The14.3Achargeisfollowedbya4.3Atimedovercharge(thisshouldprovidea5%overchargeforcellbalancingandequalization).Thechargecycleisfollowedbya5-15minuterest.Therestisfollowedbya43AdischargeuntilthebatteryvoltagereachestheLVlimit.Thiswillyieldthetruecapacity(1C)ofthebatteryunit.Finally,thebatteryischargedfor1houratarateof1C(asmeasured)intobringtheSOCupto100%.2.DischargeCycle:Thedischargecyclestartswithaconstantdischargeatthenominaldischargecurrentof1Cto90%SOC,atwhichpointtheHPPCDischargeCycleisrunonce.TheHPPCDischargeCycleconsistsofa250Adischargefor10secondsfollowedbya1Cdischa
