BookreportaboutTheWomaninWhiteThewriterofTheWomaninWhite,WilliamWilkieCollins(1824–1889)borninLondon,wasanEnglishnovelist,playwright,andauthorofshortstories,whowaskeenlypopularduringtheVictorianeraandwasnamedastheforerunnerofdetectivenovels.In1854,meetingtheliterarygiant,Dickens,influencedbyDickens,hecommencedtocreatedetectivenovels.AndTheWomaninWhitewastheauthor’sfirstdetectivenovelwhichwaspublishedin1860andalsoinitiatedanadditionalwayforEnglishliterature.TheWomaninWhitetakesLaura’sunhappymarriageandthedeepconnectionbetweenherandWalterwhoisayoungartistasthemainline.Laura,theheirtoalargefortune,aprettyandpuregirl,insistsfollowingherdeadfather’sdecisiontomarrySirPercival,acruelandselfishman,whoseaimisnothingbuttooccupyLaura’sproperty.Inordertoattainhisgoal,PercivalconspiringwithLaura’suncle,houndsAnne(thewomaninwhite)todeath,whoisLaura’shalfsister,andthrowsLauraintoasylum.ButwiththeutmosthelpfromWalterandMarian,finally,theschemeisrevealedoutandthetruthisknown.Andovercomingobstaclestogether,thelovershavealifetimeforperfectfelicity.Itisastoryofgreedandevil,innocenceandbetrayal,confusedidentitiesandcrueldeceptions.Andthisisalsoastoryoflove----alovethatbeginswithheartbreakandgrief,wherethereseemsnolightforward,nohopeforthefuture.Butlovedoesnotdieeasily;itcansurviveseparation,anddespair,andevendeathitself…IappreciatethelovestoryaboutWalterandLaura,butIdoadoreMarian.Ican’tsayMarianisthesaviorofLaura,butwithouther,Lauracoulddonothingbutfacehermiserabledestiny.“Can’tyouseethatMissHalcombehasthecourageandunderstandingofaman?HowIadmirethatwoman”,thisistheexactwordsgivenbyCountFosco,heropponent.Evenherenemypraisesher.Don’tyouthinkitisunnecessaryformetoadmireMarianforhervirtue?AsLaura’ssister,ashermoralsupport,sheisalwaysthere,givingLauraaboost,helpingherthroughdifficulties.Comingbacktoearth,thereisnoonetherewhoisn’twillingtobeaccompaniedbyapersonwhoisreliableanddependable.ButthechanceofhavingaMarianisamilliontoone.Andnowthatitislikefishingforaneedleintheocean,wecouldswitchourownroletoMarians,careaboutfriendsandbeofservicetothem.Whentheyencountergreatdifficultiesandneedother'sencouragement,wecouldbethere;whentheygetachievementsandarecheerfulandjoyful,wecouldbethere.Payattentiontotheworldaroundus,maybeourMarianshavealreadybeenwithus.Havingfriendsiseasy,havingbosomfriendsisnoteasy.Cherishwhatyouhaveatthemoment.
