TheDifferencesbetweenChineseEducationandWesternEducationTheComparisonofCollegeEducationbetweenChinaandUS•Nowadays,everycountrypaysgreatattentiontoeducation.Resultfromtheideathatscienceandtechnologymakethecountrystronger,everygovernmentinvestsalargedealofmoneyoneducation,sodoesChinesegovernment.Butwiththefastdevelopmentofeconomic,Chineseeducationsystemisstillincompletecomparedwithwesterneducationsystem.TheresearchofthedifferencesbetweenChineseeducationandwesterneducationisbeneficialforChinatodevelopabettereducationsystem.•Chineseeducationsystemisreforming.While,howtoreformcantakeabreakthroughisverythesubject.Asisoftenthecase,westernchildrencanlearnhappilyandeasilyachievesuccessaftergraduation.ButChinesechildrenusuallyhatelearningandnotwillingtogotoschool,andevenifsomecanachievesomethingintheirfield,theyoftenarecriticizedtowithnothespiritofinnovation.Whywesternchildrenaremorelikelytobesucceeded?Thispaperwilldiscussitfromthefollowingthreeaspects:schooleducation,familyeducationandtheinfluenceofsocialenvironment.•SchoolEducation•Westerneducationisakindoftrialeducation,allowingstudentstrytodovariousexperimentsontheirown,accumulatesomeexperiencesintheprocessofsolvingthedifficultiesandfinally,drawtheconclusion,whichwillreallybelongtohisorherown.•Onthecontrast,Chineseeducationisakindofforce-feedingeducation,tellingthestudentswhatistherightansweratfirst,thenlettingthestudentsoperateexactlyaccordingtothesuccessfulexperiencesstep-by-step.•Thebiggestdifferencebetweenthetwomodesisthatwesterneducationfocusonstudents.Itstarsfromhumaninstinct,whichaccordwithlearningtheories.However,Chineseeducationisakindof“production”educationaimedatgoingstraighttotherightwayandeliminatingthewrongidea.Ittreatsstudentsasproducts,hopingthatgoodproductionwillbedeliveredintheproductionlineinsteadofdefectiveones.Itisnotwillingtobefaceduptotheregularitythatlearningcanmakemistakes.Thiseducationwaywillleadtostudentlackofcreativethinking.•Inwesterncountry,theteachersencouragestudentsthefreedomofthoughtsandbeingresponsiblefortheirwordsanddeeds.Teachersusuallyplaytheroleofguiding.Asinclassroom,theywilldiscusstheproblemsthatstudentsmeetduringtheirexperimentslikefriends.InChina,itistakenforgrantedthatthestudentlistentotheteachersandtakenotesintheclassroom.Neverwillthestudentsdoubtthecorrectnessoftheanswersonthetextbooksorthattheteachershavegiventhem.•FamilyEducation•Westernparentspaymuchattentiontochildren’sownexercise.Insteadofdesigningthefuturefortheirchildren,theyvaluethefreedevelopmentofchildrenandtrytheirbesttomakethemdevelopintoasocialpersonthatcanadapttovariouskindsofenvironmentandhavetheabilitytosurviveinthisseveresociety.Theyhopethatthroughtheirfamilyeducation,theirchildrencandevelopapioneeringspiritandbeabletorelyonthemselves.•ManyChineseparentsareoverambitious.Theyoftenasktheirchildrentodowhatevertheywant.Howeverinmanycases,theirchildrencannotreachwhattheirparentswantbecausetheirparents’highdemandisbeyondtheiractuallevel.Whattheparentscaremostisstudyofthechildren.Mostofthembelievethatifstudywell,everythingiswell.Incomparison,theabilityofliveindependently,mentalhealthandsocialadaptationareignored.•Whenitcomestoeducation,westernparentsthinkthathappyeducationisofmostimportance.Ononeside,parentsoftendiscussproblemswiththeirchildren.Ontheotherside,theirchildrenarealsowillingtotalktotheirparentswhentheymeetdifficulties.Theresearchofpsychologyshowsthatpsychologicalhealthisveryimportantforthechildren’ssuccess.•WhileinChina,parentsshowtheirconcerntotheirchildrenbasicallyonphysiologicalneeds,theyconcernlittletothechildren’spsychologicalneeds.Inaconsiderabledegree,thiskindofeducationresultsinthechildren’slowpsychologicalbearabilityandthechildrencannotaffordthestressinhislife.•Fromthesecomparisons,wecanseethecontrastbetweenwesternandChineseeducation.Therearesignificantdifferences.WhatwesternparentscareisthatChineseparentsignore.Westernparentsteachchildtoclimbfromwherehefalls,correctwhathasbeendonewrongbyhimself,encouragetheirchildrentobeagreatdreamerandbecomewinnersintheirmind.Chineseparentsmaylearnfromthem.•SocialEnvironmentalInfluence•WhatChineselackmostistheresponsibilityeducation.IntheUnitedStates,itiscommontoseeanadultwhoisdoingsomethingwrongorhassomebadbehaviorseducatesachildwhilethechildisnottheadult’sownkid.TheAmericanstreateverychildastheirownchild,anditistheirresponsibilitytoeducatethechild.InEngland,thepowerofamiddle-agedwomanisinevitable.Theyarealwaysinthesupervisionofthebehaviorofyoungconsciously,justasthepolicegeneral.Theythinkitistheirdutytoobservethechildrenintheircountry.Thesetwonationshavealreadyputtheresponsibilityofeducatingthenextgenerationtoeverycitizen.Everycitizenalsoshowshisresponsibilityforhefutureofthecountryincaringaboutthechildren.•WhileinChina,whowilltreateducatingthenextgenerationashisownresponsibility?Ifoneseesanunknownchildwhoisdoingsomethingwrong,willhegoandeducatehim?ItisverycommoninChinathatadultstendtoshowindifferentwithunknownchildren.Whatifwechangeourmindandlearntocareothers?Becauseofthedifferencesofbackgroundandec
