TheSelf-RegulationQuestionnairesScaleDescription|Academic|Prosocial|HealthCare|Learning|Exercise|Religion|FriendshipDownloadthefullpacketfortheSelf-RegulationQuestionnairesinaWordfileLearningSelf-RegulationQuestionnaire(SRQ-L)Thisquestionnaireconcernsthereasonswhypeoplelearninparticularsettingssuchasacollegeormedicalschoolcourse.WhereastheAcademicSelf-RegulationQuestionnaireisforusewithchildren,theLearningSelf-RegulationQuestionnaireisforolderstudents.Itasksthreequestionsaboutwhypeopleengageinlearning-relatedbehaviors.Thisquestionnairewasformedwithjusttwosubscales:ControlledRegulationandAutonomousRegulation.Thus,theresponsesthatareprovidedareeithercontrolled(i.e.,externalorintrojectedregulation)orautonomous(identifiedregulationorintrinsicmotivation).Becausethescalewasdesignedtohavejustthetwosupercategoriesofregulation,therewasnoattempttohavethesamenumberofitemsfromeachregulatorystyle(e.g.,identifiedandintrinsic),andtherewasnopsychometricworkdoneontheindividualregulatorystyles.Thevalidationwasdoneonlyatthelevelofthetwosupercategories.Thescale,whichispresentedbelowintwoslightlydifferentversions,wasdevelopedforuseinastudyconductedinamedicalschoolcoursereferredtoasOrganSystems,inwhichstudentslearntodomedicalinterviewing(Williams&Deci,1996).Itisthefirstofthetwoversionspresented.Thescalewasadaptedslightlyforcollegestudentslearningorganicchemistry(Black&Deci,2000),andthatversionispresentedsecond.Itisessentiallythesamescale,althoughtwoitemsweredroppedforthesakeofbrevity.Thequestionnairecanbeadaptedasneededtorefertotheparticularcourseorprogrambeingstudied.Followingeachversionofthescaleisinformationaboutscoringit.TheScaleLearningQuestionnaireThefollowingquestionsrelatetoyourreasonsforparticipatingintheinterviewingclass.Differentpeoplehavedifferentreasonsforparticipatinginsuchaclass,andwewanttoknowhowtrueeachofthesereasonsisforyou.Therearethreegroupsofitems,andthoseineachgrouppertaintothesentencethatbeginsthatgroup.Pleaseindicatehowtrueeachreasonisforyouusingthefollowingscale:1234567notatalltruesomewhattrueverytrueA.Iwillparticipateactivelyintheorgansystemsclasses:1.BecauseIfeellikeit'sagoodwaytoimprovemyskillsandmyunderstandingofpatients.2.BecauseotherswouldthinkbadlyofmeifIdidn't.3.Becauselearningtointerviewwellisanimportantpartofbecomingadoctor.4.BecauseIwouldfeelbadaboutmyselfifIdidn’tstudythisapproach.B.Iamlikelytofollowmyinstructor'ssuggestionsforinterviewing:5.BecauseIwouldgetagoodgradeifIdowhathe/shesuggests.6.BecauseIbelievemyinstructor'ssuggestionswillhelpmeintervieweffectively.7.BecauseIwantotherstothinkthatIamagoodinterviewer.8.Becauseit'seasiertodowhatI'mtoldthantothinkaboutit.9.Becauseit'simportanttometodowellatthis.10.BecauseIwouldprobablyfeelguiltyifIdidn'tcomplywithmyinstructor'ssuggestions.C.ThereasonthatIwillcontinuetobroadenmyinterviewingskillsis:11.Becauseit'sexcitingtotrynewwaystoworkinterpersonallywithmypatients.12.BecauseIwouldfeelproudifIdidcontinuedtoimproveatinterviewing.13.Becauseit'sachallengetoreallyunderstandwhatthepatientisexperiencing.14.Becauseit'sinterestingtousetheinterviewtotrytoidentifywhatdiseasethepatienthas.ScoringinformationforthisSRQ-L(interviewing).Beginbycalculatingthetwosubscalescoresbyaveragingtheitemsonthatsubscale.Theyare:AutonomousRegulation:1,3,6,9,11,13,14ControlledRegulation:2,4,5,7,8,10,12Inpaststudies,thealphareliabilitiesforthesetwosubscaleshavebeenapproximately0.75forcontrolledregulationand0.80forautonomousregulation.Analysescanbedonewiththetwoseparatesubscales,oraRelativeAutonomyIndexcanbeformedbysubtractingthecontrolledsubscalescorefromtheautonomoussubscalescore.ReasonsforLearningQuestionnaireThefollowingquestionsrelatetoyourreasonsforparticipatingactivelyinyourorganicchemistryclass.Differentpeoplehavedifferentreasonsfortheirparticipationinsuchaclass,andwewanttoknowhowtrueeachofthereasonsisforyou.Pleaseusethefollowingscaletoindicatehowtrueeachreasonisforyou:1234567notatalltruesomewhattrueverytrueA.Iwillparticipateactivelyinorganicchemistry:1.BecauseIfeellikeitsagoodwaytoimprovemyunderstandingofthematerial.2.BecauseothersmightthinkbadlyofmeifIdidn’t.3.BecauseIwouldfeelproudofmyselfifIdidwellinthecourse.4.Becauseasolidunderstandingofchemistryisimportanttomyintellectualgrowth.B.Iamlikelytofollowmyinstructor’ssuggestionsforstudyingchemistry:5.BecauseIwouldgetabadgradeifIdidn’tdowhathe/shesuggests.6.BecauseIamworriedthatIamnotgoingtoperformwellinthecourse.7.Becauseitseasiertofollowhis/hersuggestionsthancomeupwithmyownstudystrategies.8.Becausehe/sheseemstohaveinsightabouthowbesttolearnthematerial.C.ThereasonthatIwillworktoexpandmyknowledgeofchemistryis:9.Becauseitsinterestingtolearnmoreaboutthenatureofchemistry.10.Becauseitsachallengetoreallyunderstandhowtosolvechemistryproblems.11.Becauseagoodgradeinchemistrywilllookpositiveonmyrecord.12.BecauseIwantotherstoseethatIamintelligent.ScoringinformationforthisSRQ-L(chemistry).Beginbycalculatingthetwosubscalescoresbyaveragingtheitemsonthatsubscale.Theyare:AutonomousRegulation:,4,8,9,10ControlledRegulation:2,3,5,6,7,11,12I
