41424344ADiscussionoftheFeaturesandFunctionsPostmodernNetspeakAbstract:ThebirthoftheInternethasgivenrisetoanewregister–netspeak.Onedistinctivefeatureofnetspeakliesinthelargeamountofabbreviatedtermsincludingacronyms.Therearemainlytwoexplanationsonthefunctionofsuchabbreviatedterms:oneistobeconciseandthusmeettheneedoffast-pacedonlinecommunication;theotheristobeusedaseuphemismsandreplacementfortaboowords.However,thereisstillathirdfunctionthathasbeenlargelyneglectedastocertainacronymsinnetspeak—theyareusedasaformofpostmodernword-playtodeconstructcertainclassicformsofexpression.Byrevealingtheincentivethathasledtothecreationandpopularizationofsuchword-playtermsinnetspeak,thepaperintendstohelppeopleachieveabetterunderstandingoftheinfluenceofpostmodernculturetowardslanguageuseandadopttherightattitudetowardnetspeak.Keywords:netspeak;acronyms;deliberatemisinterpretation;postmodern
