TheoriginofAprilFool'sDayAprilFools'DayiscelebratedintheWesternworldonApril1stofeveryyear.AprilFools'Dayisadaytoplayjokesonothers,NooneknowshowthisholidaybeganbutpeoplethinkitfirststartedinFrance.Inthe16thcentury,peoplecelebratedNewYear'sDayfromMarch25toApril1.Inthemid—1560sKingCharlesIXchangeditfromMarch25toJanuary1.ButsomepeoplestillcelebratedinonApril1,sootherscalledthemAprilFools.EachcountrycelebratesAprilFools'Daydifferently.InFrance,peoplecalltheAprilFools“AprilFish”.Theytapeapaperfishtotheirfriends'backstofoolthem.Whenheorshefindsthis,theyshout“AprilFish!”InEngland,peopleplayjokesonlyinthemorning.Youarea“noodle”ifsomeonefoolsyou.InScotland,AprilFools‘Dayis48hourslong.TheycallanAprilFool“AprilGowk”.Gowkisanothernameforacuckoo(杜鹃,布谷鸟)bird.IntheAmerica,peopleplaysmalljokesontheirfriendsandanyotherpeopleonthefirstofApril.Theymaypointdowntoyourshoeandsay,“Yourshoelaceisuntied.”Ifyoubelievethemandlookdowntosee,youareanAprilFoolthen.TrickeryinAprilFool'sdayAprilFool'sDayisthedayoftheyearwhenyoucanplaytricksonpeopleandneedn'tworryaboutthemgettingangry!Ifyoufallintothetrap,thenyouareanAprilFool.CustomsOnAprilfool'sdayWell,therearelotsofsimpletricksthatyoucanplayonyourfriends.Forexample,youcouldwearablacksweaterandpullapieceofwhitethreadthroughit,sothatpeopletrytopullitoff.Youcouldchangethetimeonsomeone’salarmclocksothatthey’relateforwork.Orglueacointothefloorandseehowmanypeopletrytopickitup.Inparticular,themediaoftentrytomakepeoplebelievesomethingwhichisnottrue.It’sentertainingtotrytoguesswhichstoriesaretrueandwhicharefake.IntheAprilFool’sstories,theyoftenincludeacluetothefactthatit’sajoke.Forexamplethenameofan‘expert’quotedinthearticlemightbeananagram(变位词)of‘AprilFool’.Radioandtelevisionprogramshavealsofooledmanypeoplebybroadcastingreportswhichareuntrue.AprilFool’sDayHoaxes(tricks)TheApril1st,1992broadcastofNationalPublicRadio'sTalkoftheNationrevealedthatRichardNixon,inasurprisemove,wasrunningforPresidentagain.Hisnewcampaignsloganwas,Ididn'tdoanythingwrong,andIwon'tdoitagain.AccompanyingthisannouncementwereaudioclipsofNixondeliveringhiscandidacyspeech.Listenersrespondedstronglytotheannouncement,floodingtheshowwithcallsexpressingshockandoutrage.OnlyduringthesecondhalfoftheshowdidthehostJohnHockenberryrevealthattheannouncementwasapracticaljoke.Nixon'svoicewasimpersonated(imitated)bycomedianRichLittle.UFOLANDSNEARLONDONOnMarch31,1989,thousandsofmotoristsdrivingonthehighwayoutsideLondonlookedupintheairtoseeaglowingflyingsaucer(碟状物)descendingontheircity.Manyofthempulledtothesideoftheroadtowatchthebizarre(remarkable)craftfloatthroughtheair.ThesaucerfinallylandedinafieldontheoutskirtsofLondonwherelocalresidentsimmediatelycalledthepolicetowarnthemofanalien(外星人)invasion.Soonthepolicearrivedonthescene,andonebraveofficerapproachedthecraftwithhistruncheon(警棍)extendedbeforehim.Whenadoorinthecraftpoppedopen,andasmall,silver-suitedfigureemerged,thepolicemanranintheoppositedirection.Thesaucerturnedouttobeahot-airballoonthathadbeenspeciallybuilttolooklikeaUFObyRichardBranson,the36-year-oldchairmanofVirginRecords.Thestuntcombinedhispassionforballooningwithhisloveofpranks.HisplanwastolandthecraftinLondon'sHydeParkonApril1.Unfortunately,thewindblewhimoffcourse,andhewasforcedtolandadayearlyinthewronglocation.2008:TheBBCannouncedthatcameracrewsfilmingneartheAntarctic(南极)foritsnaturalhistoryseriesMiraclesofEvolutionhadcapturedfootageofAdéliepenguinstakingtotheair.Itevenofferedavideoclipoftheseflyingpenguins,whichbecameoneofthemostviewedvideosontheinternet.PresenterTerryJonesexplainedthat,insteadofhuddlingtogethertoenduretheAntarcticwinter,thesepenguinstooktotheairandflewthousandsofmilestotherainforestsofSouthAmericawheretheyspendthewinterbaskinginthetropicalsun.Afollow-upvideoexplainedhowtheBBCcreatedthespecialeffectsoftheflyingpenguinsSomejokesonAprilFool’sDayJOKE1Alittleboyaskedhisfather:Daddy,howmuchdoesitcosttogetmarried?Thefatherreplied:Idon'tknow,son.I'mstillpaying!!JOKE2Wifetalkingtoherhusband(whoreadsnewspaperallday):IwishIwereanewspapersoI'llbeinyourhandsallday.Husband:Iwishthattoo,soIcouldchangeyoudaily.
