ThestorywassetinoneoftheUniversitiesintheUnitedStatesofAmerica.Dobie,accordingtohisownassessment,isacool,logical,keen,calculating,perspicacious,acuteandastuteguywhowantedtohaveagirlnamedPolly.Pollywasabeautiful,gracious,intelligentgirl.Pollybythenwasdatingthemaincharacter'sroommatePetey.PeteywaseagertohavearaccooncoatsothathecanbeintheswimastheBigMenincampus.Dobiewantedtoexchangethegirlbygivinghimaraccooncoat.Thenarrator’stonewashumorousinthelaterstorywhenhewashangingoutwithPollyandhethoughthewasexcellentenoughtodatewithPolly.RatherthanbeingnothingupstairsandemotionaltypejustlikePetey,hetaughtPolly8logicfallaciesinordertomakehersmart.However,itisasatirethatthegirlturndownDobie’srequestofbeinghisgirlfriendwiththelogicalstatementDobietaughther.AnditisalsoasatirethatPollyfinallyreceivedPetey’slovejustbecausehehadaraccooncoat.Theloverelationshipbetweenthethreecharactersisactuallyafallacyitself.Dobiethoughtlovewasonlytobeaperfectguysoastodeserveaperfectgirlfriend.AfterhisgreatendeavortoperfectPollytohavealogicthinking,Pollygotheracknowledgeoflove,thatisfollowherowndesire.PeteythoughthelosthisloverwhenheacceptDobie’sraccooncoat,however,hewasthelastonetoownPollyashehadaraccooncoat.Allthethreeweregiventheresulttheyhadn’texpectedatfirst.Inmyopinion,thefunnystorywasexitingduetothewrongpersonalvalueincampusandsociety.Peteywasdyingofbeingintheswimfirst.Ifhehadn’thadthisthoughtortheschoolwouldn’ttakelibraryasaunnoticeableplace,Dobiethereforecouldn’thadthechancetogetclosetoPollywhilePeteycouldgosteadywithherfromthebeginning.Wecanalsocriticizethesocietyofformingthevaluethatloverisdeterminedtobethewifeinthelatertime.Oryoucouldhavetheprioritytochoosesomeonesinceyouarebetterthanothersinsomearea.Loveisequal,andyouhavenorighttoreshapethegirlorboysinceyouwantto.
