Student:DinghongJiang#03971502Instructor:CarolBuhrmannAAUARH601TheManhattanTranscriptsByreadingTheManhattanTranscriptsbyBernardTschumi,Ithinkhe'stryingtorevealtheconnectionbetweenbody,movement,eventsandspace.Architectureisnotabouttheconditionsofdesign,butaboutthedesignofconditionsthatwillreorganizemanyelementsinthemostliberatingway.Architectsnotonlydesignsomeformsofspace,butcreateamulti-functionpublicspaceforsociety.Architecturaldesignisaknowledgeofresearchingworldratherthantheoneofforms.Sometimeswecouldlearnabouttheworldthrougharchitectureandspace.Thereisnoconsequentrelationshipbetweenspaceandevents.Spacejustsuppliesachanceorpossibilityforevents.Architectureandspacewillcausesomemovementsandeventsbecauseofnumbersoffeelingofdifferenthumanbodies.Spacecouldn'trulebodies,butourmovementscaninfluencethequalityofspace.Movementsdefinethespaceatsomeverymoments.Thischaracteristicisnotexpectedorcontemplatedwhenarchitectsdrawplansforthesite.Howpeopleusethearchitecturemeansthesignificanceofarchitecture.Wecan'trulesomeone'smovementsstrictlytofollowthefunctionsofthisarchitecture.Simultaneously,architectsmaythinktoomuchfordefiningtheorganizationandcirculationofarchitectureorspace.Therearethousandsofpossibilitieswhichwecannotclarify.Bodyisthekeyelementfordefiningspace.Movementsandeventsbecomedefinitionandboundaryofspaceinsteadofthephysicalelements.Differentpeopleusethesamespacetodosomethingdifferent.Then,herecomesabrandnewmeaningoflimitationordefinition.Theeventistheplacewheretherethinkingandreformulationofthedifferentelementsofarchitecture.
