FatheroftheNationIntheearlyof1900s,therewasamanwhogotaroundalot,strugglingforabrandnewanddemocraticChina,andfacedwithfailureagainandagain,henevergaveupbutpaidmore.Thisman,SunYat-sen,wasregardedasthefatherofthenation.SunYat-senwasbornin1866intoapoorfamilyinGuangdongprovince.HepersonallyfeltthepoorandtragicligeunderthereginofthegangrenousandauthoritarianQingdynasty.Attheageof14,withthehelpofhisoldbrother,heleftforHawaiiandbeganhisoverseasstudylife.In1895,SunsetupReviveChinaSocietyinHonolulu,heproposedthefamousrevolutionaryprogram:GetridoftheManchus.RestorationofChina,theaveragelandownership.In1905China'sfirstbourgeois-democraticrevolutionaryparty-ChineseAlliancewasestablishedinTokyo,SunYat-senwasunanimouslyelectedasprimeminister,andheproposedhethree-ism,orThreePeople'sPrinciplespoliticalprogram:Nationalism,democracyandpeople'slivelihood.Thenhebegantoleadarmedrevolution.includingHuanggangUprisingin1905,QinzhouUprisingin1908,GuangzhouNewArmedUprising,YellowGangUprisingin1911.Althoughthoserevolutionsendedwiehfailure,theyarousedChinesepeopleandsetthealarmforthedeathofQingdynasty.1911wasacruciallyimportantyearinChinesehistory,ItwastheyearofWuChangUprising,itoverthrewtheQingdynasty'srule,endingtwothousandyearsoffeudalrule.Hearingofthenews,Sunreturnedtochina,andhewaselectedasthetemporarypresidentofRepublicofChina,butsoonhelosthispowerandleftforJapan.In1914heestablishedtheChineseRevolutionaryPartyinTokyo,waselectedprimeminister.hechangedittoChineseNationalistPartyin1919andheservedaspresidentagain.LookingbackatthelifeofSunYat-sen,itisn’tdifficulttofindthekeyfactorsmadehimarealnationhero.Inthefirstplace,itwashisnationalismthatmadehimstandtostruggleforanewChina.Herefusedtogetawayfromthatdark,lamentableera,butdidhisbesttoachievehisgreatideal.Thenthecourageanddeterminationheshowedarealwayshisexcellentqualityhelpinghimoutofdepression.Facedwiththerevolutions’failureagainandagain,hebehavedmoreandmorebraveandpersistent.IfwemustelectamantodelegateChinesespirit,itishimWhatcouldbegreaterthanthatquality?Anotherindispensiblefactorishislong-termhistoricalperspective.Healwaysreflectedonthepast,includingtheancientChineserevolutionsandhisfailure.HesucceededinjudgingtherevolutionarysituationandproposedtounitewithCommunistPartyandSovietUnion,andhesetuparmyschoolsandetc.WhenitcomestoSunYat-sen,whatcrossmymindarealwayshisdeterminationandoptimismandthepositiveattitude.Andtheseoftenremindmeofthepresentcondition.Facedwithalittlepressurefromstudyandwork,peopletendtogiveup,orputoff,whatweareinlackofisthebackboneandperseverance,whatisalwaysblankinourmindisthelong-termhorizon:Shouldwepaymoreattentiontothefutureorthefrontprofit?Whatisitthatstopswefromachieveingourdream?WecangetthevalidanswerbycomparingusandMr.SunAnotherqualitythatwecanlearnfromSunisthestrengthofunity,Wheneverandwhereverwewanttofinishsomedifficultandcomplicatedmatters,unityandcorporationcanplayanimportantrole.WhenSunYat-sendiedin1925attheageof59,allChinesestoodstill,hedied,butthankstohim,Chinalivedon,hewasfatherofthenationindeed.Weshouldrememberandrespectthegreatmanforever.
