流利说商务英语Level5Unit1Part4HowtoHandleThemDifficultemployeesarehardtomanage,buttheyshouldnotbeignored.Herearesomeguidelinesthatcanhelpyouhandlethem.ObservethebehaviorBeforeactuallyapproachingthedifficultemployee,youneedtoobservetheirbehavior.Considerhowtheirbehaviorhaschanged,orhowithasbeenaproblem.Collectfactsaboutthedifficultemployee’sbehaviorinsteadofspeculatingorbelievingofficerumors.ListentotheemployeeYoucanhaveaone-on-oneconversationwiththeemployeetolistentowhattheyhavetosay.Itgivesthemachancetoexplainandmayhelpyouidentifythecauseoftheirbehavior.Forexample,theymayhavepersonalproblemsthatmakethemnegative.Ormaybetheyfeelundervaluedorareevenunawareofhowthey’reacting.Havingaone-on-oneconversationwiththedifficultemployeemayhelpyouidentifythecauseoftheirbehavior.Maybethedifficultemployeesfeelundervaluedorareunawareofhowtheyareacting.DiscusssolutionsOnceyouknowwhatiscausingtheirnegativebehavior,youcancomeupwithsolutionsforit.Forexample,ifanemployeefeelsundervalued,youcouldconsidergivingthemmoreresponsibility.Addressingthecoreneedsofanemployeecanimprovetheirbehavior.FollowupwiththeemployeeAfterthediscussion,regularlyfollowupwiththeemployeetochecktheirperformance.Throughouttheprocess,youneedtoofferadviceandbesupportive.Withregularfeedbackandguidance,anemployeecangraduallyimprove.Butiftheemployeehasn’tchanged,youmayneedtoinvolveHRtotakefurthermanagementactions.Ifanemployeefeelsundervalued,youcouldconsidergivingthemachallengingtask.Makesuretofollowupwiththeemployeetochecktheirperformance.Iftheemployeehasn’tchanged,youmayneedtoinvolveHRtohandlethesituation.
