——progressandproblemsEducationinChinatodayhasbeendevelopingrapidly.Mostchildrenstartschoolattheageofsixorseven.InChina,primaryandsecondaryeducationtakes12yearstocomplete,dividedintoprimary,juniorsecondaryandseniorsecondarystages.BeforethefoundationofthePeople'sRepublicofChinain1949,basiceducationinChinawasextremelybackward.After1949,thecentralandlocalgovernmentsattachedgreatimportancetobasiceducationandbegantoinputalotoffinancial,humanandmaterialresourcesineducation.In1986,theNationalPeople'sCongresspromulgatedtheCompulsoryEducationLawofthePeople'sRepublicofChina,thusplacingbasiceducationinthecountryonafirmlegalbasis.SincethepromulgationoftheCompulsoryEducationLawofthePeople'sRepublicofChinain1986,the9-yearcompulsoryeducationhasbeenimplementedbygovernmentsatvariouslevelsandmadesignificantprogress.Duringthepast60yearssincethefoundingofthePeople'sRepublicofChina,basiceducationinChinahasgainedtremendousachievements.Effortsaremadetointegratethedevelopmentofeducationandtheupgradingofqualityoflaborforcewiththedevelopmentofthelocaleconomyandtheadvancementofcultureandethicalandlivingstandardofthepeople.1.Thereisstillacomparativelylargepartofpopulationinthecountrywhocannotreadandwrite.2.Comparedwiththeadvancededucationsystem,theproblemofChineseeducationsystemisobvious.First,ourconceptofeducationfocusesontheresultbutnottheprocedureoflearning;Weallstudyforscoresfromprimaryschooltocollege.Second,diplomaistheonlymeasurementofourability;wecan'tobtainagoodjobwithoutarich-enoughdiploma,nottomentionpromotions.So,regardingsuchresultsofChineseeducation,thereformofeducationshouldfocusontwobasicaspects.First,payingattentiontotheeducationprocedures.Second,improvingthecapabilityoftheteachers.Insummary,weshouldstraightlyfacetheproblemsoccurredinthepastyears,andlearnalessonfromthemtospeedupthedevelopmentofeducationinChina.
