WilliamWordsworth’spoemscanbeseenasthenaivefantasyofromanticism.Thelanguageiseffortless,describinginsimplewordsandtheemotionsaresocommonandeasily-understoodtousall.Theymaybeseenplain,butactuallywell-appreciatedfortheiruniversality.inhispoemsnaturealwaysplaysanimportantpart.“TheWorldisTooMuchwithUs”and“IWanderedLonelyasaCloud”areperfectexampleswhichexpressedtimelessmessagesthatmankindwasmeantformorethancivilizationovertwohundredyears.In“TheWorldisTooMuchwithUs”,WilliamWordsworthillustratesthatmankindisplaguedbymaterialismandwastingtimeincapitalisticpursuits.Thefirst4linesof“TheWorldisTooMuchwithUs”holdparticularpower,andgivesignificantinsightintothemessageWordsworthisattemptingtocommunicate.Hedescribeshowwemakeourworld“toomuch”forahealthy,spirituallyfulfillinglife,fillingourdayswithmaterialswhichhasbuiltupoursocieties.TheindustrialrevolutionwouldreachitspeakaroundthesametimeWordsworthwrote“TheWorldisTooMuchwithUs”.Itisdescribedhowweoverwhelmourselveswithbeing“lateandsoon”withourhugeschedules.“gettingandspending”ourresourcesonmanufacturingandsomehollowneedsunrestrainedly.And,finally,we“laywastetoourpowers”,wastingourtime,ourenergy,ourartistry,etcinthenameofprogressandproductionInthefollowing5lines,Wordsworthcapturestheromanticandfantasticalimageryofpassionateelements,andwe,becauseofournaturalestrangement,failtoseethecelestialanimationsactingallaroundus.Wordsworth’sdescriptionoftheSea,theMoon,andtheWindsaresoprimalandwild,thatitisnotdifficultforthereadertofeelsomelossinthesinofcontemporarysociety’sestrangement;InthelastfewlineswemayfeelaspecialconnectionwithWilliamWordsworth’smind.Itisrarethatanindividualhasnever,atsomepointintheirlives,fantasizewiththeideaofretreatingtothe“bosomofnature”wheretheycanescapetheemotionalstrainofsocietyandexist,onceagain,asacompletelynewhumanbeing.Wordsworthproclaimshowhewouldhaveratherbeenbornintosomeancientpre-Christiancreed,where,hewouldhavelivedinafantasticalworldinhabitedbyforgottenPagandeities,mercifullyignorantofcivilization.Wecanfeelthepoetisafraid,infearthatwewillbetoodeeplyengagedinthecivilworld,gettingfartherandfartherawayfromthenaturalworldandloseourdistinctivefeelingsThethemeof“TheWorldisTooMuchwithUs”isgloomyandsad.Thepoetlamentsthatinmodernsociety,peoplearesobusywiththeearthylifethattheyhavelosttheabilitytoseeandfeelthebeautyinnatureandlosttheirimagination.Hereweseeatstrifetheoldpagancultureofhumanismandmoderncultureofindustrialization.Anothermasterpiece“IWanderedLonelyasaCloud”cleanlydescribestheactofwatchingapatchofcountrydaffodilsswayinginthebreezeanditslastingeffectonhisquietmomentsofreveriethereafter.Itissaidthatthepoemisbasedontheexperiencethatthepoetandhissisterweredeeplyattractedbythecharmofnaturewhenhavingatour.Inthepoem,Wordsworthgoesfurthertocommunicatehisemotionandmeaningbyhisthoughtfultone.Thechooseoftheword“lonely”in“Iwanderedlonelyasacloud”insteadofothercarefreewordsconveystousthepoet’sdepressionanddisconsolationattheverybeginning.anditisawaytoachievehispoetryviewwhichiscalled“emotionrecollectedintranquility”.Thepoemcanbedividedintotwoparts:thesceneryandlyric.thepoemisnarratedinfirstperson,bringingustrueexperience.ontheonehandWordsworthwantedtocaptureeverydetailofhismemoryofthescenery,ontheotherhand,heHadafeelingofwanderingalone,enjoyingthenaturalbeautyfreely.Hecomparedhimselfasafreely-floatingcloudandtheimaginativelinessuggestedthepoet’ssenseofdistraction,yearningforfreedominmind.Inhismemory,lushandlovelydaffodils,likestarsflutteringinthebreezynight,weredancinginthewind.Theimageof“dancing”isclearlyshownthroughoutthewholepoem.Theimageofdancingdaffodilsemergesinthefirstsection.inthesecondsectiontheamazingquantityofdaffodilsisshown.Section3focusesonthebeautifulnaturalscenerymadeupbysparklingwavesanddancingdaffodils.insuchablur,tranceandfuzzymoment,thepoetwastryingtocomprehendthetruemeaningoflife.Theincessantgoldendaffodilsdancinginthebreezebythelakeseemedtohaveaspiritualforcelikeexcitement.Indeed,thebeautyofnaturehastheabilitytohealwoundsinpeople'shearts.Thedaffodilsbecomemuchmorethanmereflowers.Theyareasymbolofnaturalbeautyand,moreimportantly,symbolizelivingaliferichinexperienceandsensation.,intheirlight-hearteddance,theyrepresentthejoyandhappinessoflivinganadoringandfulfillinglife.Thethemeof“IWanderedLonelyasaCloud”isemotionalandsensational.Throughdescribingasceneofjoyfuldaffodilsrecollectedinmemory,thepetillustrateshistheoryofpoeticinspiration—“spontaneousoverflowofpowerfulfeelings.Ittakesitsoriginfromemotioncollectedintranquility.
