全国大学生英语英语演讲比赛第一名顾秋蓓演讲稿AScenetoRememberGuQiubeiShanghaiInternationalStudiesUniversityAdvisor:GongLongshengGoodafternoon,ladiesandgentlemen.TodayIwouldliketobeginwithastory.TherewasonceaphysicaltherapistwhotraveledallthewayfromAmericatoAfricatodoacensusaboutmountaingorillas.Thesegorillasareamainattractiontotouristsfromallovertheworld;thisputthemseverelyunderthreatofpoachingandbeingputintothezoo.Shewentthereoutofcuriosity,butwhatshesawstrengthenedherdeterminationtodevoteherwholelifetofightingforthosebeautifulcreatures.Shewitnessedascene,ascenetakingustoaplaceweneverimagedwe'veeverbeen,whereintheverydepthoftheAfricanrainforest,surroundedbytrees,flowersandbutterflies,themothergorillascuddledtheirbabies.Yes,that'samemorablesceneinoneofmyfavoritemovies,calledGorillasintheMist,basedonatruestoryofMrs.DianFossey,whospentmostofbetlifetimeinRwandatoprotecttheecoenvironmentthereuntiltheveryendofherlife.Tome,themovienotonlypresentsanunforgettablescenebutalsoactsasatimelessreminderthatweshouldnotdevelopthetouristindustryatthecostofourecoenvironment.Today,weliveinaworldofprosperitybutstillthreatenedbysomanynewproblems.Ontheonehand,tourism,asoneofthemostpromisingindustriesinthe21stcentury,providespeoplewiththegreatopportunitytoseeeverythingthereistoseeandtogoanyplacethereistogo.Ithasbecomealifestyleforsomepeople,andhasturnedouttobethedrivingforceinGDPgrowth.Ithasthemagictoturnabackwardtownintoawonderlandofprosperity.Butontheotherhand,manyproblemscanoccur---naturalscenesaren'tnaturalanymore.DeforestationtoheatlodgesisdevastatingNepal.OilspillsfromtouristboatsarepollutingAntarctica.TribalpeopleareforsakingtheirnativemusicanddresstolistentoU2onWalkmanandwearNikeandReeboks.Alltheseappalling(令人震惊的)factshavebroughtustotherealizationthatwecannolongerstandbyanddonothing,becausetheverythoughtofithasbeeneroding(侵蚀)ourresources.Encouragingly,theexplosivegrowthofglobaltravelhasputtourismagaininthespotlight,whichiswhytheUnitedNationshasmade2002theyearofecotourism,forthefirsttimetobringtotheworld'sattentionthebenefitsoftourism,butalsoitscapacitytodestroyourecoenvironment.Noweveryyear,manylocalecoenvironmentalprotectionorganizationsan:receivingdonations--bignotes,smallnotesorevencoins--fromhousewives,plumbers(水管工人),ambulancedrivers,salesmen,teachers,childrenand1invalids(残疾人),Someofthemcannotaffordtosendthemoneybuttheydo.Thesearetheoneswhodrivethecabs,whonurseinhospitals,whoaresufferingfromecologicaldamageintheirneighborhood.Why?Becausetheycare.BecausetheystillwanttheirMotherNatureback.Becausetheyknowitstillbelongstothem.ThiskindoffeelingthatIhave,ladiesandgentlemen,iswhenitfeelslikeit,smellslikeit,andlookslikeit,it'sallcomingfromascenetoremember,ascenetorecallandtocherish.Theothernight,aslsawthemoonlingeroverthelandandbeforeitwassentintotheinvisible,mymindwasfilledwithsongs.Ifoundmyselfhummingsoftly,nottothemusic,buttosome-thingelse,someplaceelse.aplaceremembered,aplaceuntouched,afieldofgrasswherenooneseemtohavebeenexceptthedeer.Andallthoseunforgettablescenesstrengthenedthefeelingthatit'slimeforustodosomething,forourownandourcominggeneration.Onceagain,IhavecometothinkofMrs.DianFosseybe-causeit'swithherspirit,passion,courageandstrongsenseofourecoenvironmentthatwearetakingournextstepintotheworld.Andnomatterwhoweare,whatwedoandwherewego,inourmind,there'salwaysascenetoremember,asceneworthourefforttoprotectitandfightforit.Thankyouverymuch.
