PersonalStatementforTESOLInthethousandsofyears’humanhistory,therehasneverbeenacountrythatblendeditselfwiththeoutsideworldfasterthanChinaisdoingrightnow.TodaytheChinesepeoplearedisplayingunprecedentedemphasisandfanaticismtowardsEnglishstudy.Asthemostpopulouscountryintheworld,ChinaisproudofmoreEnglishlearnersthananyothercountryintheworld.ThisisespeciallythecaseafteritjoinedWTOwhenthedemandforEnglishexpertsincreasesbytheday.AsagraduatefromEnglishdepartment,IhaveaclearvisionofthepresentstateandthepromisingfutureofEnglishteachinginChina.Toourdisappointment,theenthusiasmandquantityarenotmeritedbyqualityandEnglishteachinginChinaisbeingmaneuveredintoadirecorner.Thelackofscientificguidelineandtheneedofprofoundtheoryoflinguisticsandeducationasitssupportmaybetheanswers,amongothers.Asaresult,weareinwantofnotonlyeffectiveteachingmethodology,butalsothemechanismsforfeedback,testing,evaluationandcomparison.Ontheotherhand,empiricalideologyandoutofdateteachingmethodsprevailintheteachingpractice,whichresultsindeplorablyimpotenteducationandseriousresourceexhaustion.Ontheotherhand,Languageisnotisolated.Ithas,asitsbackground,profoundculture,withouttheunderstandingofwhich,languagestudywouldnotonlybeineffective,butalsotonoavail.YetpresentlyinChina,whatEnglishteacherslearnispurelyconcernedwithlanguageitself,broodingadeplorablelackinadeeperunderstandingofwesterncultureandthinkingmodes.DuringtheprocessinwhichChinaisopeningfasttotheoutsideworld,Englishisavitalmeans,asuperficialknowledgeofwhichwillbringmoreharmthangoodtoourcause.Forthatreason,therenovationofEnglisheducation,anhonorabledutyoftheEnglishspecialists,provestobeamust.TherebyIapplytoyourschoolforPHDofTeachingEnglishtoSpeakersofOtherLanguages.YoursisanaccomplishedoneinTESOL,withfirstclassteachers,scientificcurricula,bountifulresearchachievementsandheuristicteachingideology.Aboveall,Englishteachingisparticularlyfeaturedinyourschool,whereIwillbeingratiatedwiththeopportunitytogetacquaintedwithoriginalEnglishcultureandtheintegrationofvariousculturesaswell.Afterseriousconsideration,Icametotheconclusionthatyourschoolsuitedmethebest.Theapplicationisnotfiledwithoutcarefulthoughts.CurrentlyIamworkinginabank,wheretheincomeandsocialstatusarequiterespectableinChina.Moreover,myEnglishabilityand10yearsexcellentprofessionalexperiencerendermeapromisingfuture.Inspiteofthat,asagraduatefromtheEnglishdepartment,Iamoftenlostinanunexplainabledespondentmood.Consideringmypersonalinterestsandinclination,itwouldbeunimaginabletospendmywholelifeinthebank,wheremyspecialtycouldnotbefullyexploitedwhereasteachingEnglishwouldmakeitpossible.Overseasstudyistheonlywayformetochangemycareer.CertainlyIamclearlyawareoftheacademicrequirementforapplicationtostudyinyourschool.Yetwithinspectivereflection,Icometobeconfidentofit.OwingtoaninstinctivelovefortheEnglishlanguage,myEnglishstudyperformancehasbeenrankedintheforefrontsinceprimaryschool.Intheuniversity,Imadefulluseofthe4yearstimeandfor5semestersIwasgrantedscholarships.Intheend,IboastedthesecondhighestscoresinpassingtheEnglishProficiencyTestBand8amongthestudentsofthesamegradeinmydepartment,ofwhomonlyoneoutofsixmanagedtobesuccessful.OutofmystronginterestinAmericanliterature,mygraduationthesiswasdecidedonthetitleofCommentaryonSisterCarrie,inwhichusingrichreferences,convincingevidencesandcreativeanalysis,Iprovidedmycommentaryastotheartisticandideologicalachievementsofthegreatmasterpiece,whichwithitsoriginalandpersuasiveconclusioncompletedmyuniversityeducationwithperfection.Duringthe4yearsuniversitystudy,thecomprehensivedevelopmentinmylistening,speaking,writingandreadingabilitieswaswellbalanced.Withthesubstantialcurriculaandsufficientreferences,asolidfoundationwaslaidinGuangsiUniversity,whereIespeciallypreferredextensivereadingandEnglishliterature.Inextensivereadingclass,myteacher,acopyaweek,providedmaterials,wherebyIcoveredmanybrilliantbooksonliterature,historyandculture.BesidesIwasalsoavoraciousandvoluntaryreaderinthelibrary,absorbingnutrientsfromagreatvarietyofEnglishworks.AnotherofmyfavoriteswasEnglishLiteraryHistory,intowhichmyAmericanteacherfilledmuchofcultureandhistoryalongsidethe17thand18thcenturies’literaryworksandturnedthelessonintoakindofenjoyment.Inthesenioryears,Igotabetterideaoftherichorigin,thetheoreticalmodesandthedevelopmentprocessoftheEnglishlanguagethroughhigher-levelcoursessuchaslinguistics,lexicology,literaryhistoryandliteraturestudyetc,whereIwasfurtherintroducedtothebeautyandprofundityoftheEnglishlanguage.OwingtothespecialfeatureofcreditcarddepartmentandinternationalsettlementdepartmentwhereIworked,IdealtwithlargequantitiesofEnglishdocumentsinmydailywork.TheconventionswefollowedinourworkwerealsoinEnglish.Byandbymyabilityinusingthelanguagewasgreatlyimproved.Besides,IalsopersistedinmyEnglishstudyandintentionallyreadandcollected,throughinternet,libraryandsoon,booksandreferencessuchasEnglishgrammar,languageacquisition,methodologyofteachingEnglishtospeakersofotherlanguagesandcross-culturalcommunication,etctogetmyselfpreparedforfurthereducationinspecialt
