Whatisfaith?What’sthepoweroffaith?Giveexamplestoillustrateit.A:Lastmonth,welearntthetextnamed“Faith”,didyourememberit?B、C、D：Ofcourse,WearemovedbyPakistanisandAfghanistanpeople.A:why?Canyougiveyourreason?Asforme,Iconsiderthisquestionallthetime:whatisfaith?B:Iaminterestedinthebook’stitlebecauseitcomesfromaBaltiproverb“ThefirsttimeyoushareteawithaBalti,youareastranger.Thesecondtimeyoutaketea,youareanhonoredguest.Thethirdtimeyoushareacupoftea,youbecomefamily.”Thesayingsmakesmeeagertoreadthisbook.Inmyopinion,Ialsowanttoknowthemeaningofthefaith.C:IknowverymuchaboutPakistanandAfghanistanonTVorradio,whichismiserableanddeserted.Manypeoplediedorbecamehomelessbecauseofwarandhunger.Irespectthosewhocangothroughanyhardconditionsandsmileatanydifficulties.D:Asforme,Iwanttoknowwhypeoplecankeepfaithintheiralllife.What’smore,religionbeliefissofirmthatpeoplecanbecomecrazy.Iamveryinquisitive.A:Differentpeoplehavedifferentopinions.Ithinkeveryonehasfaith.Ialsohavemyownfaith.Inmyopinion,faithistrust,hope,beliefinthegoodness,trustworthinessorreliabilityofaperson,conceptorentity.Forexample,myfaithalsocanbedescribedastheidealofstudyinghard,beingaqualifiedgraduatestudent,findinganidealjobaftergraduationandmakingmycontributiontothesociety.Tothelatermyfaithistofindagoodhusband,formaperfectfamily,andlivehappily.OfcourseIregardidealasfaith,Ithinkthatfaithiseveryone'sgoal,itwillalwaysbetheretoguideusalongtheway.Becauseoffaith,wearemoremotivated,moreconfidenttofacesetbacksinourlife.Thisismypointofview.B:Idon'thaveanyfaith,especiallythereligiousbelief.Asforme,religionisfairytaleandfaithisjustadelusion,soI’matheistandalwayshavebeen.Idon’tbelieveinanyonetosaveorhelpmebutmyself.Peoplemaysupportyou,butwhenitcomestosuccessandtryingtogettowhereveryouwanttogettoinlife,you’reonyouown.Youneedtodoeverythingprettymuchyourself.Prayingtogodwon’thelpyou,andreligioncannothelpyou.ThereforeIdon'tthinkIneedanyfaith.Lifemustrelyonourownstruggle;Godisnotgoingtohelpyou.Ifirmlyconvincedactionisstrongerthanprayinganyblessing.That’smyview.C:Idon'tagreewithyourpointofview.Ithinkeveryonemusthavefaith.Takemyselfasanexample,IamaChristian,soIbelieveingod,whocreatedthisworldandhasthepoweroftheentireuniverse.IhaveareligionbecauseIwasbornandgrewupinafamilywhohadreligion.Tobehonest,whenIwasakid,Iusedtobelieveinwhateverreligionandgodtoldme.ButasIgrewup,Istartedtoquestionwhethertherereallywasagod.AndIgraduallyfoundthattheconceptsofreligionandarelogical.Religionteachesmetobeagoodhumanbynotbeingselfish、impatientandproud.Ifoundthatitdoesn’tgivemeanydisadvantage.Instead,itmakesmeapersonthatcanbeacceptedbysociety.Thisismyunderstandingofthefaith.D、Ihavemyownfaith.Nowthepeopleareveryconcernedaboutthequestionoffaith.Somecriticsoffaithhavearguedthatfaithisopposedtoreason.Incontrast,advocatesoffaitharguethattheproperdomainoffaithconcernsquestionswhichcan’tbesettledbyevidence.Thisisexemplifiedbyattitudesaboutthefuture,whichhasnotyetoccurred.Logicalreasoningmayproceedfromanysetofassumptions、positiveornegative.Inmyview,faithissimplyapositiveassumptionbutIthinkthefaithisapersonalmatter.Sofollowyourhearttodothethingsyoulikesuchasthefaith,aslongasitisnotharmothersandsociety.Ifapersonhadnofaith,heorshealsohadnoidealorgoal.Sometimes,Iamconfusedhowcanfirmlykeepfaith.A:Aboveinall,Faithcanbeofferedasameansbywhichthetruthoftheproposition,“thingswillturnoutwellintheend,”canbeenjoyedinthepresentandsecuredinthefuture.Informalusageoftheword“faith”canbequitebroad,andthewordisoftenusedasameresubstitutefortrustorbelief.
