YellowCraneTowerlocatedonSnakeHillinWuchang,theYellowCraneTowerisoneofthethreemostfamoustowersonthesouthbankoftheYangtzeRiver.(theothertwoareYueyangTowerinHunanandTengwangTowerinJiangxi)IthasbecomethesymbolofWuhanforitslonghistory,itsmagnificentoutlookanditsimposingarchitecturalstyle.TheLegendofYellowCraneTowerLegendhasitthatinWuchang,thereusedtobeawineshopopenedbyayoungmannamedXin.Oneday,aTaoistpriest,ingratitudeforfreewine,drewamagiccraneonthewalloftheshopandinstructedittodancewheneveritheardclapping.Thousandsofpeoplecametoseethespectacleandthewineshopwasalwaysfullofguests.After10years,theTaoistpriestrevisitedthewineshop.Heplayedthefluteandthenrodeonthecranetothesky.Inmemoryofthesupernaturalencounterandthepriest,theXinsbuiltatowerandnameditYellowCraneTower.Firstbuiltin223AD,thetowerhasahistoryofover1700years.Rebuiltin1985,theYellowCraneTowerParkoccupiesahillyareaandconsistsoftowers,pavilionsandcorridors,forminganarchitecturecomplexandagardencomplexofman--madeandnaturalscenery.Thepresenttowerisacompletereconstructionandistheresultoffouryearsofworkbeginningin1985.Wheretheoldtowerwasonly15meterswide,thegroundfloorofthenewstructurewasincreasedto20meterswide.Thetower,51.4metershigh,isfive-storiedwithyellowtilesandredpillars,overlappingridgesandinterlockingeaves,moremagnificentthantheoldone.Itisnotonlyanimportantscenicspot,butalsoasymbolofpipingtimesofpeaceinpeople'sminds.ScholarsinthepastdynastieswrotehundredsofpoemsandscoresofwritingsinpraiseofthemagnificentYellowCraneTower.ThelegendaboutthetowerhasbecomeabrightpearloftheChineseliterature.
