1HowtoMotivatePrimarySchoolStudents’EnglishLearningInterestAbstract“Interestisthebestteacher.”InterestisoneoftheleadingfactorsforEnglishlearners,especiallyforprimaryschoolstudents.AstronginterestmakesstudentstolearnEnglishactivelyandinitiatively,itwouldbeveryinterestingtolearnEnglishatthebeginningfortheprimaryschoolstudents.Butinthefollowinglearningperiods,becauseoflackingsomecorrectwaysandenvironmentoflearninglanguage,theylosetheirconfidencetolearnEnglish.AlotofPrimarySchoolstudentsdon’tliketostudyEnglishandtheyregardEnglishasoneoftheirlearningburdens,sotheyaren’twillingtospendingtimeonit.TheseareduetostudentshavingnointerestinEnglishlearning.ThispapergivesananalysisthatmotivatingPrimarySchoolstudents’interestinEnglishLearningisveryimportant,andintroducessomewaysabouthowtomotivatePrimarySchoolstudents’interestinEnglishlearning.KeyWords:Motivate,Primaryschoolstudents,Interest,EnglishLearning摘要兴趣是人们力求接触、认识、掌握某种事物和参与活动的心理倾向。兴趣是最好的老师,学生在学习过程中,只有对某件事或老师采用的某种方法有了浓厚的兴趣,他才会积极、主动地去完成学习任务。小学生在刚开始接触英语时,往往会具有极大的兴趣,但随着所学内容的增多或程度的加深,再加上学习方法不当,又缺少适当的语言环境,从而这种兴趣就会逐渐减弱,甚至感到学习英语太枯燥而丧失学好英语的信心,把学习英语视作负担,而影响英语学习效果。因此,教师要注意培养小学生学习英语的兴趣,养成学习英语的良好习惯。法国教育家第斯多惠说:“教学的艺术不在于传授本领,而在于激励、唤醒、鼓舞。”这句话给了我很大启示:教育应通过各种途径,从多方面培养学生的学习兴趣和创新能力,促使学生成为新世纪所需要的人才;我们小学英语教师作为学生创新学习2的组织者,应该主动开拓进取,不断创新和优化教学手段,使课堂教学艺术化。关键词:激发;小学生;兴趣;英语教学1.IntroductionItiswellknownthatinterestisadriveforpeopletomakeeffortstoknowsomethingortotakepartinanactivity.Asaresult,itisalsoadirectfactortoinfluencestudents’learningself-consciousnessandinitiatives.Andinterestinlearningisamentalstateofconsciousnessanddynamicinstudy,itisalsoaninternaldriveforstudentstolearninitiatively,tothinkactively,andtolearnknowledge.SoPrimaryschoolEnglishteachingshouldpayattentiontofosteringstudents’interest,andthegreatestextend,motivatingstudents’studyinitiatives.Generallyspeaking“interestisthebestteacher.”Andthemaindriveforchildrenistocarryonactivities.ThecharacteristicsofPrimarySchoolEnglishteachingisthatteachingenlightensstudentsinterestinEnglish,studentswillhavealittleknowledgeofpronunciationandobtainbasiclanguagesenseinlisteningandspeakingbylistening,speaking,acting,singingandplaying.BasedonPrimarySchoolstudents’mentality,physiologyandlearningcharacteristics,PrimarySchoolEnglishteachingshouldfocusonimprovingstudents’interest.Educationalpsychologytoldusthatonlywhenteachingarousedstudents’interest,couldstudentscentralizetheirattentiontolearningperception,memorization,thinkingandimagination.Letthemknowthatlearningisakindofenjoyment,notaburden,itcanmakestudentstobethirstforknowledgeandawillingnesstoovercomedifficulty,anditgivesthemthejoyforsuccess.SincePrimarySchoolstudentshaven’tself-consciousnessandinitiativesinstudy,interestbecometheirfirstdrivetolearn.Aslongastheyareinterestedinsomething,theyoftenacceptitquickly.(TaoXingzhi,2003:6)Thus,ifteacherpaysmoreattentiontofosteringstudents’interestinlearning,teachingwillleadtoagoodgoal.Onthecontrary,teachingwillleadtodissatisfyresultinteaching.InPrimarySchoolEnglishteaching,howtomotivate,fosterPrimarySchoolstudents’interestbecomesteachers’maintasks.“Ifstudentshavenointerestinstudying,theyarenotwillingtostudy.”Interestisanimportantfactortomotivatestudents’progress.MostofPrimarySchoolstudentslearnsomethingattheirwills,especiallyinEnglishstudy.OncetheyhaveinterestsinEnglish,theywillbemoreinterestedinlearningEnglish,andtheywilltakepartinallkindsofEnglishactivitiesactivelyandinitiatively.SotomotivatePrimaryschoolstudents’3interestinEnglishlearning,teachershouldunderstandtheirinterests.Ifteachersusemonotonousteachingmethodtoexplain,mechanicalimitationandrecitation,studentswillbetiredofEnglish.Asaresultofthis,teacherscannotonlymotivatetheirinterests,butalsotheirformerinterestinEnglishandthewishtolearnEnglishwilldecrease,soteachershavetofollowtheprincipleofinterest.Attheverybeginning,andusevisual-aidstofitforchildren,itisnecessarytoadvocatethatenlighteningisthegoodmethodtoteach,tocreatearelaxedandpleasantatmosphereintheclassroombygames,toarouseandkeepstudents’curiosityandenthusiasminEnglish.Allthosewouldstimulatestudents’Englishlearninginterest.Allinall,tomotivatePrimarySchoolstudents’interestinEnglishlearningisveryimportant.2.LiteratureReviewItisknownthattomotivatePrimarySchoolstudents’interestinEnglishlearningisveryimportant.AsTaoXingzhisaid,tomakelearnersautonomousistomotivatelearners’initiativeactive,letstudentslearnandbetrainedbymakinginaspecificsituation.TaoXingzhithoughtthattomakestudentscreativerequiresteacherstoadopttheteachingmethodsofelicitationanddiscussion,teachershouldtrytheirbesttomotivatestudents’interestsandinitiatives,andmakestudentstolearncreatively,independentlyandinitiatively.Thewaytobeinafree,looseandcomfortablesituationisthedevelop-groundtocharacters.AndRogerthinksthatsuccessfuleducationdependsonrelationshipofunderstandingandtrustingbetweenteachersandstudents,andharmoniousandsecureclassroomatmosphere.EducatorDiesterwegsaid:Artdoesnotlieinteachingandteachingskills,butratheranincentiveforstudentstoawaken,andinspire.(Chen,2002:12)Tolstoysaid
