乔布斯生平中英文对照《经济学人》网络版今天发表评论文章,对乔布斯的逝世做出了默哀,并对乔布斯的生平进行了总结。指出乔布斯非凡的成就源于其丰富的经历,而乔布斯将科学技术与人文科学和人性相结合是其产品成功的根本所在。NOBODYelseinthecomputerindustry,oranyotherindustryforthatmatter,couldputonashowlikeSteveJobs.Hisproductlaunches,atwhichhewouldstandaloneonablackstageandconjureupa“magical”or“incredible”newelectronicgadgetinfrontofanawedcrowd,weretheperformancesofamastershowman.Allcomputersdoisfetchandshufflenumbers,heonceexplained,butdoitfastenoughand“theresultsappeartobemagic”.Hespenthislifepackagingthatmagicintoelegantlydesigned,easytouseproducts.Hehadbeenamongthefirst,backinthe1970s,toseethepotentialthatlayintheideaofsellingcomputerstoordinarypeople.Inthosedaysofgreen-on-blackdisplays,whenfloppydiscswerestillfloppy,thenotionthatcomputersmightsoonbecomeubiquitousseemedfanciful.ButMrJobswasoneofahandfulofpioneerswhosawwhatwascoming.Crucially,healsohadanunusualknackforlookingatcomputersfromtheoutside,asauser,notjustfromtheinside,asanengineer—somethingheattributedtotheexperiencesofhiswaywardyouth.MrJobscaughtthecomputingbugwhilegrowingupinSiliconValley.Asateenagerinthelate1960shecold-calledhisidol,BillHewlett,andtalkedhiswayintoasummerjobatHewlett-Packard.Butitwasonlyafterdroppingoutofcollege,travellingtoIndia,becomingaBuddhistandexperimentingwithpsychedelicdrugsthatMrJobsreturnedtoCaliforniatoco-foundApple,inhisparents’garage,onAprilFools’Day1976.“Alotofpeopleinourindustryhaven’thadverydiverseexperiences,”heoncesaid.“Sotheydon’thaveenoughdotstoconnect,andtheyendupwithverylinearsolutions.”BillGates,hesuggested,wouldbe“abroaderguyifhehaddroppedacidonceorgoneofftoanashramwhenhewasyounger”.Droppingoutofhiscollegecourseandattendingcalligraphyclassesinsteadhad,forexample,givenMrJobsanapparentlyuselessloveoftypography.ButsupportforavarietyoffontswastoproveakeyfeatureoftheMacintosh,thepioneeringmouse-driven,graphicalcomputerthatApplelaunchedin1984.Withitswindows,iconsandmenus,itwassoldas“thecomputerfortherestofus”.HavingmadeafortunefromApple’sinitialsuccess,MrJobsexpectedtosell“zillions”ofhisnewmachines.ButtheMacwasnotthemass-marketsuccessMrJobshadhopedfor,andhewasoustedfromApplebyitsboard.Yetthisapparentlydisastrousturnofeventsturnedouttobeablessing:“thebestthingthatcouldhaveeverhappenedtome”,MrJobslatercalledit.Heco-foundedanewfirm,Pixar,whichspecialisedincomputergraphics,andNeXT,anothercomputer-maker.Hisremarkablesecondactbeganin1996whenApple,havinglostitsway,acquiredNeXT,andMrJobsreturnedtoputitstechnologyattheheartofanewrangeofAppleproducts.Andtherestishistory:ApplelaunchedtheiMac,theiPod,theiPhoneandtheiPad,and(briefly)becametheworld’smostvaluablelistedcompany.“I’mprettysurenoneofthiswouldhavehappenedifIhadn’tbeenfiredfromApple,”MrJobssaidin2005.WhenhisfailinghealthforcedhimtostepdownasApple’sbossin2011,hewashailedasthegreatestchiefexecutiveinhistory.Oh,andPixar,hissideproject,producedastringofhugelysuccessfulanimatedmovies.Inretrospect,MrJobswasamanaheadofhistimeduringhisfirststintatApple.Computing’searlyyearsweredominatedbytechnicaltypes.Buthisemphasisondesignandeaseofusegavehimtheedgelateron.Elegance,simplicityandanunderstandingofotherfieldscametomatterinaworldinwhichcomputersarefashionitems,carriedbyeveryone,thatcandoalmostanything.“Technologyaloneisnotenough,”saidMrJobsattheendofhisspeechintroducingtheiPad,inJanuary2010.“It’stechnologymarriedwithliberalarts,marriedwithhumanities,thatyieldstheresultsthatmakeourheartssing.”Itwasanunusualstatementfortheheadofatechnologyfirm,butitwasvintageSteveJobs.Hisinterdisciplinaryapproachwasbackedupbyanobsessiveattentiontodetail.Acarpentermakingafinechestofdrawerswillnotuseplywoodontheback,eventhoughnobodywillseeit,hesaid,andheappliedthesameapproachtohisproducts.“Foryoutosleepwellatnight,theaesthetic,thequality,hastobecarriedallthewaythrough.”HeinsistedthatthefirstMacintoshshouldhavenointernalcoolingfan,sothatitwouldbesilent—puttinguserneedsaboveengineeringconvenience.HecalledanAppleengineeroneweekendwithanurgentrequest:thecolourofoneletterofanon-screenlogoontheiPhonewasnotquitetherightshadeofyellow.HeoftenwroteorrewrotethetextofApple’sadvertisementshimself.Hison-stagepersonaasaZen-likemysticnotwithstanding,MrJobswasanautocraticmanagerwithafiercetemper.Buthisegomaniawaslargelyjustified.Heeschewedmarketresearchersandfocusgroups,preferringtotrusthisowninstinctswhenevaluatingpotentialnewproducts.“Alotoftimes,peopledon’tknowwhattheywantuntilyoushowittothem,”hesaid.Hisjudgmentproveduncannilyaccurate:bytheendofhiscareerthehitsfaroutweighedthemisses.MrJobswassaidbyanengineerintheearlyyearsofAppletoemita“realitydistortionfield”,suchwerehispowersofpersuasion.Butintheendhechangedreality,channellingthemagicofcomputingintoproductsthatreshapedmusic,telecomsandmedia.Themanwhosaidinhisyouththathewantedto“putadingintheuniverse”didjustthat.以下为中文评论全文:到目前为止,世界上还没有哪个计算机行业或者其他任何行业的领袖能够像乔布斯那样举办出一场万众瞩目的盛会。在每次苹果推出新产品之时,乔布斯总是会独自站在黑色的舞台上,向充满敬仰之情的观众展示出又一款“充满魔力”而又“不可思议”的创新电子产品来,他的发布方式充满了表演的天赋。计算机所做的无非是计算,但是经过他的解释和展示,高速的计算就“仿佛拥有了无限的魔力”。乔布斯终其一生都在将他的魔力包装到了设计精美、使用简便的产品当中去。乔布斯早在20世纪70年代便已经看到了向普通大众出售计算机这块业务的潜力。在当年世
