SchoollifeintheUKGoingtoaBritishhighschoolforoneyearwasaveryenjoyableandexcitingexperienceforme.IwasveryhappywiththeschoolhoursinBritainbecauseschoolstartsaround9a.m.andendsabout3.30p.m.ThismeansIcouldgetupanhourlaterthanusual,asschoolsinChinabeginbefore8a.m.Onthefirstday,allofthenewstudentsattendedanassemblyintheschoolhall.IsatnexttoagirlwhosenamewasDiana.Wesoonbecamebestfriends.Duringtheassembly,theheadmastertoldusabouttherulesoftheschool.Healsotoldusthatthebestwaytoearnrespectwastodevoteourselvestostudyandachievehighgrades.ThissoundedlikemyschoolinChina.Ihadmanyteachersinthepastyear.MrHeywood,myclassteacher,wasveryhelpful.MyfavouriteteacherwasMissBurke--IlovedthelessonsthatshegaveinEnglishLiterature.Inourclasstherewere28students.ThisisabouttheaveragesizeforBritishschools.Wehadtomovetodifferentclassroomsfordifferentclassses.Wealsohaddifferentstudentsinsomeclasses,soitwasastruggleformetorememberallthefacesandnames.IfoundthatthehomeworkwasnotasheavyaswhatIusedtogetinmyoldschool.However,itwasabitchallengingformeatfirst,becauseallthehomeworkwasinEnglish.Ifeltlucky,asallmyteachersgavememuchencouragementandIenjoyedallmysubjects:English,History,EnglishLiterature,ComputerScience,Maths,Science,PE,Art,CookingandFrench.MyEnglishimprovedalot,asIusedEnglisheverydayandspentanhoureachdayreadingEnglishbooksinthelibrary.IusuallywenttotheComputerClubduringthelunchbreak,soIcouldsende-mailstomyfamilyandfriendsbackhomeforfree.IalsohadanextraFrenchclassonTuesdayevenings.CookingwasreallyfunasIlearnthowtobuy,prepareandcookfood.Attheendoftermweheldaclasspartyandweallhadtocooksomething.IwasgladthatallmyclassmateswerefondofthecakethatImade.StudentsatthatschoolhavetostudyMaths,EnglishandScience,butcanstopstudyingsomesubjectsiftheydonotllikethem,forexample,HistoryandFrench.TheycanchooseothersubjectslikeArtandComputerScience,orlanguagessuchasSpanishandGerman.IntheArtclassthatItook,Imadeasmallsculpture.Thoughitdidnotlookverybeautifulwhenitwasfinished,Istilllikeditverymuch.ImissedChinesefoodalotatlunch.Britishfoodisverydifferent.Britishpeoplelikeeatingdessertattheendoftheirmainmeal.Afterlunch,weusuallyplayedontheschoolfield.SometimesIplayedfootballwiththeboys.SometimesIjustrelaxedunderatreeorsatonthegrass.Iwasveryluckytoexperiencethisdifferentwayoflife.IlookbackonmytimeintheUKwithsatisfaction,andIreallyhopetogobackandstudyinManchesteragain.
