SolarChargeControllersOtt5ADischargeProtectionOverchargeProtectionTemperatureCompensationSystemVoltage12VGassingRegulationPleasereadtheseinstructionscompletelybeforeinstallation!Instructionsanddescriptionofthesolarchargecontroller.Inphotovoltaicsolarsystemsleadbatteriesareoftenusedforstoringsolarcurrent.Thesebatterieshavetobeprotectedagainstoverchargingandoverdischarging.Thesolarchargecontrollerfulfillbothtasksinonedevice.Itisforusein12Vsystems.OverchargeProtectionWhenthebatteryexceedsthefinalchargevoltage,itstartstogas.Asthisprocessistemperaturedependent,thefinalchargevoltageisadaptedautomaticallytotheambienttemperaturebyabuilt-insensor.Stronggasingleadstoanelectrolytelossandfinallytothedestructionofthebattery.Thebatteryishowevernotchargedcompletelywhenthefinalchargevoltageisreached,sothatthecurrentflowshouldnotbeinterrupted.Thechargecontrollerthereforereducesthecurrentflowintothebatteryjustasmuchasthatthefinalchargevoltageisnotexceeded.ThisprocedureiscalledIU-chargingwhichisconsideredtobeespeciallyfastandgentle.Thereductionofthecurrentflowiseffectedbyveryquick,temporarycutoffthesolargenerator.GasingRegulationThefinalchargevoltageischangedindependencewiththedischargelevel.Whenaleadbatteryisoperatedwithoutgasdevelopmentforalongertime,thereisthedangerofaharmfulacidlayering.Thisacidlayeringcanbeavoidedbylimited,controlledgasing.Thisfunctionisfulfilledbythegasingregulation.Thegasingregulationswitchesofftheoverchargeprotectionuntiltheso-calledfinalgasingvoltageisreached.Furthermorethegasingregulationincreasesthefinalchargevoltageduringhighcyclisation.Bythistemperaturedependentfunction,thebatterycapacityisbetterused.OverdischargeprotectionThebatterieshavetobeprotectedfromoverdischarge,asitwouldbedestroyedotherwise.Thereforethechargecontrollerprotectesthebatteryfromoverdischargebydisconnectingtheloadswhenthevoltagefallsbelowthefinalchargevoltage.Afterthebatteryhasbeenrechargedbythesolargeneratorandthereconnectionvoltageisreached,theloadsareagainreconnected.Fig.1:CircuitDiagramDisplays:ThecontrollercontainsthreeLEDs.TheyellowLEDisonassoonasthereisenergyfromthemodule.Whenthecontrollerstartstolimitthechargecurrent,thisLEDisflashing.ThegreenandtheredLEDshowsthestateofcharge(SOC).WhenthegreenLEDisonthenthebatteryisfull.WhenthebatteryisemptytheredLEDisonandtheloadsareswitchedoffbythechargecontrollertoprotectthebattery.Loadswitch:Thechargecontrollercontainsaredmanuelloadswitch.Theloadisswitchedonwhentheswitchisinitslowerposition.Theloadisswitchedoffwhentheswitchisinitsupperposition.AdviceforInstallation:Donotforgetthattheconnectedloadsdonotusemorecurrentthanadmissableforyourregulator.Payattentiontothecorrectpolarity!Avoidshortcircuits!Evenwhenthecontrollerisprotectedagainstshortcircuit,overloadandwrongpolarityThecontrollerhastobeinstalledpossiblynearthebatteryandmustnotbeexposedtodirectweatherconditions.Thecontrolleristobeoperatedinwell-ventilatedrooms.Theconnectionterminalshavetopointdownwardswhenitisinstalled.Inordertoactivatetheprotectivefunctionsthecontrollerhastobeconnectedwithsolargenerator,batteryandusers.Allsystemcomponentsi.e.solargenerator,battery,loadsandcontrollerhavetobecoordinatedconcerningvoltage.Thisistobecheckedbeforeintallation!Payattentiontothecorrectnominalvoltage!Askyourdealerwhenyouareindoubt!Followingorderhastobeobeyedwheninstallingyourcontroller:1.Connectthebatterywiththecontrolleratthescrewterminal.Thebiggestpossiblecablediameterisrecommendedinordertokeepavoltagedropandaconnectionterminalheatingaslowaspossible.Onlywhenthecontrollerisinstalledwithshortcircuitproofcables,anisolationofthebatterycablecanbeomitted.Otherwiseafusehastobeinserteddirectlyatthepluspoleofthebatteryinordertoavoidashortcircuit.Bothcomponentshavetobeinstalledinthesameroominneardistance,asthesensorfortemperaturedeterminationisintegratedintothecontroller.2.Connectthemoduleswiththecontrollerandnotethecorrectpolarity.3.Atlastconnectloads.Sourcesoferrors:Inversionofbatterypolarity:Theinternalelectronicfuseprotectthechargecontroller.Inversionofmodulepolarity:Protected,butnochargingispossible.Inversionofthepolarityoftheload:Theloads(lights,radioetc.)canbedamagedbeforetheelctronicfusetrips.Fig.2:ConnectionShortcirciutloads:protected,butLoadsaredisconnectedforsomesecondsAttention:1Avoidshortcircuits:dangeroffire!2.Sparkingscandevelopespeciallyindirectcurrentsystemsduringinstallationandoperation.DonotinstallPV-componentsinroomswhereeasyflammablegasesmixturescandevelop(e.g.bygasbottles,laquers,solvents).Consultyourdealerwhenindoubt.LimitedwarrentySteca,hereafterreferredtoas”themanufacturer”,herebyoffersthefollowinglimitedwarranty:Themanufacturerwillrepairorreplace(atthemanufacturer’soption)alldefectsinmaterialsandworkmanshipthatoccurduringthewarrantyperiodof2years..Theusualtearandwearisnotconsideredadefect.Thiswarrantydoesnotcoveranyfaultsthathavebeencausedbyimproperuseoftheenduserorthirdparties,particularlybyimproperinstallationandoperation,faultyorcarelessuse,extremelyheavyuse,inappropriateoperatingmaterial,inadequateinstallationsite,
