MBA Admission Procedure

MBAAdmissionCurrentHoweSchoolMSStudentsAdmissionRequirementsIfyouarecurrentlyenrolledinaHoweSchoolMaster’sprogram,viz.,InformationSystems(MSIS),Management(MSM),orTelecommunicationsManagement(MSTM),youcanapplyatanytimeforadmissiontotheMBAprogramprovidedyourcumulativeGPAis3.0orhigher,ANDyouhavetakentheGMATscoring500(550forFEmajors).YouonlyneedtocompleteaProgramAdd/Changeformavailableat’sdecisionandthenameofyournewadvisor.IfyouhavereachedthepointwhereyouhavecompletedallofthecoursesinyourMSprogram,andnowwishtocontinuetotheMBAwithoutformallygraduatingwiththeMSdegree,youalsoneedonlycompleteaProgramAdd/ChangeformandsubmitittotheGraduateAdmissionsoffice.SuchstudentsmaybeeligibletoreceiveaconditionaladmittotheMBAprogramiftheyhavenottakentheGMAT,whichwillenablethemtocontinuetheirstudieswithoutabreak.Theywill,however,beexpectedtotaketheGMAT(score500)priortothecompletionofthreecoursestoremainingoodstanding.StudentswhoreceivedConditionalAdmitstatusandwhohavecompletedthreecourseswillhavearegistrationholdplacedontheiraccountsuntiltheGMATrequirementismet.ProcessThefirstthingyouneedtodecideistheMBAMajorthatyouwishtopursue.Wecurrentlyoffereleven(11)majorsintheFlexMBA-TMprogram–EngineeringManagement,FinancialEngineering,GlobalTechnologyManagement,InformationManagement,IT/FinancialServices,IT/Outsourcing,IT/Pharmaceuticalindustry,PharmaceuticalManagement,ProjectManagement,TechnologyInnovation,andTelecommunicationsManagement.ThoseitalicizedaretheMajorsforwhichallcoursesareavailableon-line.DetailsonthevariousMajorscanbefoundontheMBAwebsite.See(60credits),10ofwhicharecorecourses(30credits)withtheremaining10(30credits)consistingofbreadthcoursespluscoursescomprisingtheparticularmajor.ThenumberofcoursesyouwillneedtotakewilldependonthenumbercompletedtodateinyourMSprogram.IfyouwishtomajorinthesameorrelatedconcentrationasyouarepursuinginyourMSprogramandhavecompletedyourfinalcourseinyourMSprogram,youwillnormallyneedtotakeanadditionaleight(8)coursesfortheMBA.Dependingonyourcareerobjectives,youmaywanttothinkabouttheDualDegreeoption,whichenablesstudentstograduatewithanMBAdegreeinTechnologyManagementandanMSdegree.ThisoptionissuitedtostudentswhowouldliketheirMBAmajortobeinadifferentdisciplinefromtheirMSconcentration,e.g.,anMBAinProjectManagementandanMSinInformationSystems.Youdon’thavetomakeadecisionregardingtheDualDegreeoptionuntilyouareapproachingthecompletionofyourMBAcourses.DualdegreestudentssimplywithholdtheirApplicationforCandidacy(AC)fortheMBAuntilsuchtimeastheyhavecompletedtheadditionalfourcoursesforatotalof72credits.ItisthenumberofcreditsontheACthattellstheregistrarwhetheryouareapplyingforaMBAdegreeonly,oradualMS/MBAdegree.StudyPlanHavingchosenyourMajor,younowneedtodevelopyourstudyplan.Youbeginbyprintingoutthegenericstudyplanforthatmajor,whichyouwillfindat(4)electiveoptionswhereyoucanwriteinthecoursesfromyourMSconcentration.YourobjectiveistoensurethatallcoursesfromyourMSprogramareincludedintheMBAstudyplaninordertoassuremaximumreuseofcredit.ThosecoursesremainingonthestudyplanthathaveNOTbeencheckedconstituteyourstudyprogramfortheMBA.IfyouhavecoursesinyourMSthatyouhavenotbeenabletoaccommodateinyourMBAstudyplan,youwillneedtoconsultyouradvisortodetermineanappropriatesubstitution.Incaseswhereyouhavesubstituted,orproposetosubstituteanothercourseforonelistedinthestudyplan,orhavehadcoursesfromanotherinstitutionapprovedfortransfercredit,besuretoindicatethosecoursesinthestudyplantogetherwiththesubstitutedcoursesoitiscleartoyouradvisorandtotheregistrarwhatisbeingproposed.ThelaststepistohaveyouradvisorapproveyourstudyplanandforwardacopytotheRegistrar.Inplanningyourschedule,youwillfindtheMSMperpetualcalendar,[e-mail][e-mail][e-mail]201-216-8
