只用whether-不用if的情况

whether和if作“是否”解，有时可以换用，有时不能换用。一.以下9种情况下只用whether不用if:1．所引导的从句作介词宾语时，只用whetherEg:IworryaboutwhetherIhurtherfeelings.2．引导宾语从句，从句置于句首表示强调时，只用whether.eg：Whetherthisistrue（ornot），Ican’ttell.3．和动词不定式连用时，用whether，不用if。Eg:Idon’tknowwhethertoseemydoctortoday.4．直接与ornot连用时，用whether，不用if。例如：Eg:Canyoutellmewhetherornotthetrainhasleft?5．引导主语从句时，从句位于句首用whether，不用if。Eg:Whethershelikesthepresentisnotcleartome.她是否喜欢那件礼物我不清楚。6．引导表语从句时，用whether,不用if。例如：HisfirstquestionwaswhetherHolmeshadarrivedyet.它的第一个问题是福尔摩斯是否已经到了。7．引导让步状语从句，作“不管”解时，用whether，不用if。eg:Whetheryoulikeitornot,you’llhavetodoit.不管你愿不愿意，你都得做这件事。8．如果句中已有if引导的状语从句，最好用whether，以避免重复if。或在容易造成歧义的情况下，如表达“是否”的意思时，最好用whether。例如：Heaskedmewhether,ifIhadtime,I’dgowithhim.他问我，如果我有时间的话，是否和他一起去。9．在discuss后面只能跟whether引导的宾语从句。Eg:Wediscussedwhetherweshouldclosetheshop.二.慎用whether:1.宾语从句如果是否定句，一般用if，因为whether引导的宾语从句通常是肯定的。例如：Idon’tcareifshedoesn’tcome.Wediscussedwhetherweshouldclosetheshop.2.注：doubt用于肯定句时，可用whether或if引导的宾语从句，在否定句或疑问句中则跟that引导的宾语从句。例如：Idoubtwhether/ifhewillcome.Idon’tdoubtthatyouarehonest.Canyoudoubtthathewillcome?
