美国总统周末电台演讲:华盛顿白宫奥巴马每周电台演讲WASHINGTON-Inthisweek’saddress,PresidentObamasaidthat,evenasweworktorebuildoureconomyandjumpstartjobcreation,itisimperativethatweofferourchildrenaqualityeducationinorderforAmericatosucceedinthe21stcentury.WhileRepublicansinCongressarelookingtocuteducationfundingby20percent,thePresidentremainscommittedtoenactingreformsthatprovideeverychildwithaworld-classeducationwhileatthesametimeequippingthemwiththeskillsandtrainingtheyneedtocompeteinthenewglobaleconomy.ThePresidentwillcontinuefightingforaneducationsystemthathelpstobuildastrongmiddleclassandgivesourchildrenthebestpossiblechanceinlife.PreparedRemarksofPresidentBarackObamaWeeklyAddressSaturday,October9th,2010Theotherday,IwastalkingabouteducationwithsomefolksinthebackyardofanAlbuquerquehome,andsomeoneaskedaquestionthat’sstayedwithme.Heasked,ifwedon’thavehomestogoto,whatgoodisaneducation?Itwasaheartfeltquestion,onethatcouldbeaskedbyanyonewho’slostahomeorajobinthisrecession.Becauseifyou’reoutofworkorfacingforeclosure,allthatreallymattersisanewjob.Allthatreallymattersisaroofoveryourhead.Allthatreallymattersisgettingbackonyourfeet.That’swhyI’mfightingeachandeverydaytojumpstartjob-creationintheprivatesector;tohelpoursmallbusinessownersgrowandhire;torebuildoureconomysoitliftsupamiddleclassthat’sbeenbatteredforsolong.Butevenaswefocusondoingallthat;evenaswefocusonspeedingupoureconomicrecovery;wealsoknowthatwhenitcomestojobs,opportunity,andprosperityinthe21stcentury,nothingismoreimportantthanthequalityofyoureducation.Atatimewhenmostofthenewjobsbeingcreatedwillrequiresomekindofhighereducation;whencountriesthatout-educateustodaywilloutcompeteustomorrow,givingourkidsthebesteducationpossibleisaneconomicimperative.That’swhy,fromthestartofmyadministration,we’vebeenfightingtooffereverychildinthiscountryaworld-classeducation–fromthecradletotheclassroom,fromcollegethroughacareer.Earlierthisweek,IannouncedanewSkillsforAmerica’sFutureinitiativethatwillhelpcommunitycollegesandemployersmatchwhat’staughtintheclassroomwithwhat’sneededintheprivatesector,sowecanconnectstudentslookingforjobswithbusinesseslookingtohire.We’reeliminatingtensofbillionsofdollarsinwastefulsubsidiesforbankstoadministerstudentloans,andusingthatmoneytomakecollegemoreaffordableformillionsofstudents.Andwe’velaunchedaRacetotheTopinourstatestomakesureourstudents,allofthem,aregraduatingfromhighschoolreadyforcollege–sowecanmeetourgoalofgraduatingahigherproportionofstudentsfromcollegethananyothercountryintheworldby2020.Andyet,ifRepublicansinCongresshadtheirway,we’dhaveahardertimemeetingthatgoal.We’dhaveahardertimeofferingourkidsthebesteducationpossible.Becausethey’dhaveuscuteducationby20percent–cutsthatwouldreducefinancialaidforeightmillionstudents;cutsthatwouldleaveourgreatandundervaluedcommunitycollegeswithouttheresourcestheyneedtoprepareourgraduatesforthejobsofthefuture.Now,itistruethatwhenitcomestoourbudget,wehaverealchallengestomeet.Andifwe’reseriousaboutgettingourfiscalhouseinorder,we’llneedtomakesometoughchoices.I’mpreparedtomakethosechoices.ButwhatI’mnotpreparedtodoisshortchangeourchildren’seducation.WhatI’mnotpreparedtodoisundercuttheireconomicfuture,youreconomicfuture,ortheeconomicfutureoftheUnitedStatesofAmerica.Nothingwouldbemoredetrimentaltoourprospectsforsuccessthancuttingbackoneducation.ItwouldconsignAmericatosecondplaceinourfiercelycompetitiveglobaleconomy.ButChinaandIndiaaren’tplayingforsecond.SouthKoreaandGermanyaren’tplayingforsecond.They’replayingforfirst–andsoshouldtheUnitedStatesofAmerica.Insteadofbeingshortsightedandshortchangingourkids,weshouldbedoublingdownonthem.WeshouldbegivingeverychildinAmericaachancetomakethemostoftheirlives;tofulfilltheirGod-givenpotential.Weshouldbefightingtoleadtheglobaleconomyinthiscentury,justlikewedidinthelast.Andthat’swhatI’llcontinuefightingtodointhemonthsandyearsahead.Thanks,everybody,andhaveagreatweekend.
