IEC61131specifiesrequirementsandrelatedtestsforPLCsandtheirassociatedperipherals(forexample,programminganddebuggingtools(PADTs),human-machineinterfaces(HMIs),etc.)whichhaveastheirintendedusethecontrolandcommandofmachinesandindustrialprocesses.
PLCsandtheirassociatedperipheralsareintendedtobeusedinanindustrialenvironmentandmaybeprovidedasopenorenclosedequipment.IfaPLCoritsassociatedperipheralsareintendedforuseinotherenvironments(lightindustrial,commercial,residential),thenthespecificrequirements,standardsandinstallationpracticesforthoseotherenvironmentsshouldbeadditionallyappliedtothePLCanditsassociatedperipherals.
ThisstandardalsoappliestoanyproductsperformingthefunctionofPLCsand/ortheirassociatedperipherals.
