Hanfureferstothepre-17thcenturytraditionalclothingoftheHanChinese,thepredominantethnicgroupofChina.HanfuencompassesalltypesoftraditionalclothingwornbytheHanChineseethnicgroup.Assuch,ithasahistoryaslongasthehistoryoftheHanChinesepeople.HanfuwaseliminatedbyManchuinvadersbyforceinthe17thcentury,andislargelyunknowninChinatoday,exceptamongasmallbutvocalgroupofpeopleadvocatingtherevivalofHanfuasaChinesenationalcostume.HistoryofHanfuAccordingtoChinesetradition,HanfucanbekeithtracedbacktotheYellowEmperor,agreatsagekingofancientChinawhomlegendsaysruledinthe27thcenturyBC.Hanfuitselfhasarecordedhistoryofmorethan3000years.ItwaswornbyHanChinesepeoplefromthesemi-legendaryXiaDynasty(c.21stcenturyBC-16thcenturyBC)allthewaytotheMingDynasty(1368-1644).ThetraditionaldressofmanyAsiancountrieshavebeeninfluencedbyHanfu,especiallythoseofJapanandKorea.HanfuwasregardedbyHanChineseasaveryimportantpartoftheirculture.ThewearingofappropriatestylesofHanfuwasanimportantpartofcourteousrefinedbehaviour.ConfuciusconsideredHanfuaveryimportantpartofChineseceremonyandritualandmanyofhisquotationscontainreferencestoHanfu.ThedisappearanceofHanfuHanfudisappearedatthebeginningoftheQingDynasty(1644-1911).TheQingDynastywasfoundednotbyHanChinesewhoformtheoverwhelmingmajorityofthepopulationofChinaproper,butbytheManchus.TakingadvantageofthepoliticalinstabilityandfrequentpopularrebellionsconvulsingChina,thehighlyorganizedmilitaryforcesoftheManchussweptintotheMingcapitalofBeijingin1644(whichitselfhadearlierfallentorebelforcesunderLiZicheng),andformedtheQingDynasty.TheManchusforesawthattheywouldhavegreatdifficultyrulingtheHanChinese,whooutnumberedthemvastlyandhadamoresophisticatedculture.SoonafterthetakeoverofChinaproper,theManchusforcedtheHanChinesementoadoptManchuhairstyle(thebraid)andManchu-styleclothing.(QipaoandTangzhuang)Therewasenormousresistancetothesepolicies,especiallyagainstthebraid,whichrequiredshavingtheentiretopfronthalfofthehead.(Chinesetraditionaldictatedthatremovinghairwasagainstfilialpietybecauseonereceivedone'shairfromone'sparents.)Popularuprisingsflairedupimmediately,butthosewereputdownbrutally.Upto30to50millionHanChinesepeoplemayhaveperishedintotalasaresultoftheManchuinvasionandconquest.Enforcementofthepolicieswasswift,brutal,andeffective.HanfuwasreplacedbyManchu-styleclothing.Hanfuwasstillpermitedforwomen,howeverwithoutthetraditionalsupportofthepalace,womenstartedreplacingtheirhanfuclothingwithstylesthatwereinfluencedbytheimperialcourtandHanfuwascompletlygonewithinacenturyofQingrule.AfterthefalloftheQingDynastyin1911,Manchudressandthebraiddisappearedquicklyinfavourofwestern-styledress.TodaymostHanChinesewearwestern-styleclothing,andHanChineseclothingislargelyunknown.RecentattemptsbyHanfuadvocatesinChinatowearHanfuoutdoorshaveprovokedcuriousreactionsfromonlookers,manyofthemmistakingHanfuforJapanesedress.However,thereisasmallbutvocalmovementinChinatoreviveHanChineseclothingasaChinesenationalcustom.DescriptionofHanfuShenyiisakindoffull-length,one-piecerobewhichlinkstheYiandChangtogethertowrapupthebody.Itiscutseparatelybutsewntogether.Shenyiwasnamedbecausewhenitwaswornthebodywasdeeplywrappedup.PartsofShenyi:Jin:thefrontofuppergarmentJiaolingYouren:Crossedcollars,tyingtotheright.Thisisthestandardcollarstyleofhanfu.Forbothmenandwomen,alwaysoverlaptherightsideofthehanfuwiththeleftside.Theoppositeright-over-leftstyleisforothernationsorusedtodressacorpseforburial.Qu:sleevecuffsMei:sleevesChang:skirtQuju:skirtwithcurvedhemformedbycirclingthefabricaroundthebodyLegendAccordingtolegend,thefirstruleroftheChinesenationandtheancestoroftheChinesepeopleisanimmemorialsagekingcalledtheYellowEmperor.Accordingtotraditionalreckoning,heunifiedtheNorthChinaPlainin2697BC.Legendssaythatunderhisrule,Chinawasaprosperousandpowerfulnationwithstablepoliticsandadvancedculture.Manyculturalandtechnologicalinventionsareattributedtohisreign,suchastheChinesewrittenlanguage,methodsofagriculture,music,theChinesecalendarandsoon.TheYellowEmperor'simperialconsort,Leozu[Su],wassaidtobethefirstpersontoknowhowtoraisesilkwormsandmakesilkfromthesilkwormcocoon,fromwhichHanfuwaswoven.ThustheChineseHanfuwasinvented.BecauseLeizuhadprovidedChinawithbeautifulsilkandHanfu,sheisoftenreveredasthefemaleancestoroftheChinesepeople,andrespectfullyaddressedwiththetitleofXianchansincetheWesternZhouDynasty.TheInfluencesOfHanfuDuetothelengthofitshistoryandChina'soverwhelmingculturalinfluenceontheregion,HanfuhassignificantlyshapedthestylesoftraditionalcostumesofsomeAsiancountries.KoreaHanbokandJapaneseKimono,theyhavetheuniquestyle,havesomedifferencesfromHanfu.ButtheyhadbeeninfluencedbyHanfu.Theseclothingshavecommonfeature:Yourenandwidesleeve.SomepeopleinChinatodayalsomistakeHanfuforKoreanHanbokandJapaneseKimono.ChineseHanDynastyElementFashionT-shirtsWenowcombinetheelementsofHanfu,mainlyJiaolingYourenwithfashonT-shirts,thus,cameouttheChineseElementFashionT-shirtsSeries,10designsforthefirstbatch,moreandbetterlater.
