1ResearchonZigbeeWirelessCommunicationWeiDongWuhanUniversityofTechnologyWuhan,Chinavicdw@163.comAbstract—Zigbeewirelesscommunicationtechnologyisakindofnewlyarisenwirelessnetworktechnology;thecharacteristicisshortdistancecommunication,lowspeed,lowpowerdissipation,andlowcost.It,applicationofZigbeewirelesscommunicationtechnology,makesthatinconven-ientwirerepeatcanbeavoidedintheareaofhome,factory,hospital,etc.WiththerapiddevelopmentofITindustryandthestrongfunctionalexpansionofSCM,Zigbeewirelesscommunicationtechnologywillplayanimportantroleinwirelesssensornetwork(WSN).Inthispaper,Zigbeewire-lesscommunicationtechnologyandtheprocessofestablish-ingZigbeenetworkareintroduced,theapplicationofZigbeewirelesscommunicationtechnologyisstudiedintherealworld.Keywords--Zigbee;wirelesscommunicationtechnology;protocolstack;applicationI.INTRODUCTIONWiththedevelopmentofnetworkandcommunicationtechnology,theinconvenienceofwiringissolvedwithWSNintopeople’slife;especiallyithaswideperspectiveandpracticabilityintheareaofremotesensing,industrialautomationcontrol,anddomesticapplianceandsoon.WSNhasgoodfunctionsofdatacollection,transmission,andprocessing.Ithasmanyadvantagescomparedtotra-ditionalwirednetwork,forexample,convenientorganiz-ingnetwork,smallinfluencetoenvironment,lowpowerdissipation,lowcost,etc.Atpresent,nearfieldwirelesscommunicationtechnologyhasbeenusedwidely,espe-ciallyBluetooth,wirelesslocalareanetwork(WLAN),infrared,etc.But,theyhaveanumberofdisadvantages,forexample,complexity,largepowerdissipation,shortdistance,networkinginsmallscale.Inordertosatisfythedemandoflowpowerdissipationandlowspeedamongwirelesscommunicationdevices,anewtypeofwirelessnettechnology-Zigbeeemergesasthetimesrequire.Inthispaper,wewillintroducethenetworkingtechnologyandapplicationofZigbeewirelesssensor.InSectionII,wewillintroducethebasicconceptsofZigbeewirelesscommunicationtechnology,itsoriginandZigbeeprotocolstack.InSectionIII,theapplicationofZigbeetechnologyisintroduced,SectionIVisthecon-clusions.II.THEINTRODUCTIONOFZIGBEEZigbeeAlliancewasestablishedinAugust,2001,In-vensysCorporation,Mitsubishielectriccompany,MotorolaCompany,PhilipssemiconductorjoinedinZigbeeAlliance,theywouldresearchthenextgenerationofwirelesscommunicationstandardscalledZigbee,ZigbeeAlliancehashadtwenty-fivemembers[1].ThebasisofZigbeeisIEEE802.15.4standard,butitonlyde-finesthelowertwolayers:thephysical(PHY)layerandthemediumaccesscontrol(MAC)sub-layer,thentheZigbeeAlliancebuildsonthisfoundationbyprovidingthenetwork(NWK)layerandtheAPIisstandardized.Itcouldbeembeddedinallkindsofdevices,supportGeo-locationfunction,andbeusedwidelyinareaofndustrialmonitoring,safetysystem,smarthome,etc;theprotocolisrealizedbyprotocolstack.TheZigbeestackarchitecture[2],whichisdepictedinFigure1,ismadeupofthephysical(PHY)layer,theme-diumaccesscontrol(MAC)sub-layer,thenetwork(NWK)layerandtheframeworkfortheapplicationlayer,whichincludestheapplicationsupportsub-layer(APS),theZigbeedeviceobjects(ZDO)andthemanufactur-er-definedapplicationobjects.ThePHYlayerhastwoseparatefrequencyranges:868/915MHzand2.4GHz.The868MHzisusedinEu-ropean,the915MHzisusedinAmerica,andthe2.4GHzisusedallovertheworld.TheMACsub-layercontrolsaccesstotheradiochannel,aCSMA-CAmechanismisusedtotransmitbeaconframes,synchronizationandprovidingareliabletransmission.TheresponsibilitiesoftheZigbeeNWKlayerareusedtodiscoveryone-hopneighborsandstorepertinentneighborinformation.Alsoitwillmakedevicesjoinandleaveanetwork,keepframesroutetotheirintendeddestinations.Theresponsi-bilitiesofZigbeeapplicationlayerisusedtomaintaintablesforbindingandforwardmessagesbetweenbounddevices.Figure1theZigbeestackarchitectureEachlayerperformsaspecificsetofservicesforthelayerabove:adataentityprovidesadatatransmissionserviceandamanagemententityprovidesallotherser-vices.Eachserviceentityexposesaninterfacetotheup-perlayerthroughaserviceaccesspoint(SAP),andeachSAPsupportsanumberofserviceprimitivestoachievetherequiredfunctionality[2].2Zigbee2004stackisannouncedbyZigbeeAlliancein2004,anapplicationexampleoffamilycontrollampisprovided(nowrarelyused).Zigbee2006stackisan-nouncedin2006,Zigbee2007stackisannouncedin2007,Zigbee2007stackhastwoversions:ZigbeestackandZigbeeProstack.ZigbeeProstackisgreatlygoodforrealizinglong-termstabilityandreliability,itisgoodforusingbythesystem,butZigbeestackismainlyusedinsmallstaticnetwork[3].III.ZIGBEENETWORKA.PrimitiveTheconceptofprimitiveisintroducedatfirst.Dia-loguebetweendifferentlevelsoflanguagecalledtheprimitive;itcouldprovideaspecificsetofservicestotransmitnecessaryinformation.Primitivesincludere-quest,confirm,responseandindicationprimitives,re-questprimitiveisusedtocallpredefinedlowerlayerfromtheupperlayer,confirmprimitiveisusedtotransmitthestateofservicecompletedfromthelowerlayertotheupperlayer,indicationprimitiveisusedtoindicatethestateofthelowerlayercausedbytheupperlayer,re-sponseprimitiveisusedtoresponseindicationaboutthechangeofthelowerlayerbytheupperlayer.B.BasicnetworkstructuresZigbeesupportsmultiplenetworkstructures,whichmainlyincludestar,tree
