泰姬陵（TajMahal）•TheconstructionofthismarblemasterpieceiscreditedtotheMughalemperorShahJahanwhoerectedthismausoleuminmemoryofhisbelovedwife，ArjumaridBanoBegum；popularlyknownasMumtazMahal，whodiedinA.H.1040（A.D.1630）。•Herlastwishtoherhusbandwastobuildatombinhermemorysuchastheworldhadneverseenbefore.ThusemperorShahJahansetaboutbuildingthisfairytalelikemarvel.•TheconstructionofTajMahalwasstartedinA.D.1632andcompletedattheendedin1648A.D.Forseventeenyears，twentythousandworkmenaresaidtohavebeenemployedonitdaily，fortheiraccommodationasmalltown，namedafterthedeceasedempress-'Mumtazabad'，nowknownasTajGanj，wasbuiltadjacenttoit.•AmanatKhanShiraziwasthecalligrapherofTajMahal，hisnameoccursattheendofaninscriptionononeofthegatesoftheTaj.PoetGhiyasuddinhaddesignedtheversesonthetombstone，whileIsmailKhanAfridiofTurkeywasthedomemaker.MuhammadHanifwasthesuperintendentofMasons.•ThedesignerofTajMahalwasUstadAhmadLahauri.ThematerialwasbroughtinfromalloverIndiaandcentralAsiaandittookafleetof1000elephantstotransportittothesite.Thecentraldomeis187ft.highatthecentre.•Theshadowandlightplaydemonstratesitsmanymoods.SomefeeltheTajisbestseenonafullmoonnight，othersfinditetherealatdawnwhilesomeinsistthatitissensuousatsunset.
