TheReadingReportofTheLordofTheRingThelordofringswaswrittenbyJohnTolkienin1955.HemadeupamysticalworldcalledMiddleEarth.Andthestartofthestory,isnotaperson,butanobject,aring.TheringallowsonetocontrolahostofotherringshandeddowntothedifferentpeoplesofMiddleEarth:threeringsbelongtotheimmortalelves;seventothedwarfs;andnineringstomortalhumans.Theringthatrulesalltheothers,forgedusingthefiresofMountDoombytheevilWizardSauron,givesitsholdersomuchpowerthatitcorruptsallthosewhoseektowearit,eventhepurest.Ofcourse,therearesomepeoplesthataremorepurethanothers.Humansgenerallyseemincapableofwearingitwithoutbeingcorruptedbyitsinfluence.Butthereexistsadiminutivepeople,theHobbits,whodoseematleastcapableofcarryingitwithoutbeingpollutedtoomuch.SothefatehadcometoaHobbit----Frodo,whohadtocarrythisRingdeepintotheshadowsofMordorandunmakeitintheplacepreciselyitwasmade.IfthisRingexists,theworldmayfallinthePoweroftheDarkLord.SoFrodo,withhisgardenerSam,startedanamazingjourneytowardsthehope.ButtheHobbitsisakindofpeoplewholovespeaceandquiet.Theydon’tcaremuchaboutaffairsintheworld,nordotheyliketotakepartinadventures.ButFrodoandSamhavenochancetochoosetheirdestiny.ThefutureoftheMiddleEarthdependsonthislittlecreature.InthestoryofthistrilogyFrodoisthemostimpressivecharacternotbecauseofhisheroicmovement,buthistruepersonality.Asareflectionofourhumanbeing,hehasbeenafraid,hehasbeentemperedbythepowerofthering,andhehasdoubtaboutthepossibilityofthesuccess.Justbecausehe’ssosimilartous,thejourneybecomesmoredangerousanddifficult,whichmakesiteasierforthischaractertomoveus.Icanstillrememberthenarrationofthebeginningofthestory.InasmallHobbitstowncalledShire,whichisjustliketheunforgettabledreamland,aHobbitboy,Frodo,shinylikethebrightsunshine,readingbeneaththetree.Hisclearblueeyesrepresentthepurestsoulintheworld,whichletsmedoubtaboutthetruththatthere’snoangleintherealworld.He’sjustaninsignificantnobody,heneverthinksabouttheambitiousdreamoffightingforthejusticeandfreedom.Buthelovedhisuncle,hisfriendsandhishometownShire.HepackedupandwentonthejourneyforadventurejustbecausehewantedtosaveShire,theplaceheneverwantstoleave.ThefirsttimethestorymovesmeiswhenthetwohobbitssteppedoutofthewheatfieldofShire.Samstoppedandsaid:”onestepfurthermakesthefurthesttripawayfromhome”.UntilthattimehadIrealizedwhatagreatsacrificetheymade.WhenthechancecametohimthathecanleavetheringwiththekingoftheElves,hemadehisdecision.Whenhesawtheoutstandingrepresentativesofdifferentpeoplesquarreledwitheachotherabouthowtodealwiththering,hesteppedoutandsaid:”Iwilltakeit!Iwilltakeit!IwilltaketheringtoMordor!”Iwasshockedandsurprisedbythegreatpowerthatburstoutfromthislittlecreature.Theotherthemeofthisbookisthefriendshipthatrunsthroughthestory.Inthenovel,afterthewizardGandalfandhumanBoromirdiedinsuccessiononthewaytotheMountDoom,Frodocrumbleddown.Hebegantohatethering,andcurseditthatwhyithadchosenhimtobethecarrier.Hepickedhimselfupquicklyanddecidednottobringanyoneelseinthisdangerousjourney,hewantedtoshoulderthisgreatresponsibilitybyhimself.Sohegottheonlylittleboatandsetout.Atthattime,hisfriendSamfoundhimandjumpedintotheriverthoughhecouldn’tswim.SamembracedFrodocloselyandsaid“Imadeapromise:Don’tyouleavehim.AndIdon’tmeanto,Idon’tmeanto.”ThewholestorygetstoitsmostexcitingpartwhenFrodoandSamfinallymadetheirwaytotheMountDoom.Thering’sex-holderGollumtookthechancetoguideFrodoandSamtotheMountDoomandwantedtogettheringback.SoGollumsowndiscordbetweenFrodoandSam,whichmadeFrododriveawaySammistakenly.ButSamdidn’tleavehisfriend,instead,hefollowedthemandprotectedFrodowhenhegotintodanger.WhenFrodogotsotiredthathecouldnotstandupandgoonthelastfewstepsonthemount,Samtoldhim“Icannottakeit,butIcantakeyou.ThenhecarriedFrodoonhisbackalthoughhewasastiredasFrodo.LookingateverydifficultstepSamtook,tearsfillmyeyes.SammadethepromisethathewouldaccompanyFrodountiltheendofthetrip,andfinallyhemadeit.ThelightofthefireontheMountDoomshoneonSam’sface,Iknewhewouldnotgiveupfromthefortitudeofhisexpression.ButFrodohesitated,whentheyfinallygottothetopoftheMountDoomandhehadthechancetodestroytheringforeverjustbyloosedhishandandlettheringfallintothefireoftheMountDoom.Itwasnotsurpriseforme,becausenobodycouldresistantthetemptationofthering.Afterthelongjourneywiththering,ithadbeenonepartofhisbody,andcorruptedhissouldaybyday.Samshoutedtohim:Frodo,justdropit,please!ButFrodorefusedandturnedbackwiththeringputonhisfinger.ButthankstoGullom,whowasthoughtofdeadbefore,cameoutandfoughtforthering.Andfinally,Gullomfelldownintothefirewiththering.Inmyopinion,theringinthestoryrepresentsthemoneyandthepowerintherealworldwhichwaschasedbymanypeopleeventhekindest.AfterIcheckedthebackgroundinformationofthewriterJohnTolkien,Iunderstandthenovelbetter.HejoinedthearmyintheWorldWar2andsufferedalotinthewar.SoIhavesufficientreasonstobelievethatthering,theMountDoomandalltheevilcharactersinthenovelwasrelatedtohishorribleexperienceofthewar.Andthekindness,thebraveryandthesacrificingspiritofdifferentpeoplesontheMiddleEarthrepresentthebeautifulworldhedreamedof.I’dliketosumupthiswithonesen
