高一英语泛读训练之四---AuldLangSyne友谊地久天长AuldLangSyne友谊地久天长I.Culturalbackground:ThisisaScottishsong.ThetitleofthesongmeansinEnglish“Olddaysgoneby”.ThemusicisanoldScottishtuneandthewordswereoriginallywrittenbytheScottishnationalpoet,RobertBurns.ThisfamouspoetwasbornatAlloway,inasmallcottage,whichnowisaBurnsmuseum.Duringhisshortlife,(1759-1796)hewroteabout300traditionalsongs,bothintheScottishdialectandinstandardEnglish.ThisisongisquitepopularinBritainandalsoallovertheworld.Peoplegenerallysingthissongonspecialoccasions,suchasNewYear’sEve.People,oldandyoung,gathertogetherintheirhomesorinthelocalpubsandmerrilysingthissongoveraglassofwhiskyorbeer.Therehasbeenatradition,on25thJanuary,forpeopleofliterarycirclestocelebratethebirthofthispoet.ThatisusuallyknownastheRobbieBurnsNight.RobertBurnsgainedgreatfameforhissimole,touchingandattractivepoemssuchasMyLoveIsLikeaRed,RedRose.ItisalwaysagreatpleasureforEnglishstudentstolearnthispoem.Burnshadagreatcapacityforlove,friendshipandheartyfellowshipandtheseattitudesprovidethechiefthemesofhispoems.II.Thesong:AuldLangSyneShouldoldacquaintancebeforgot,Andneverbroughttomind?Shouldoldacquaintancebeforget,Anddaysofauldlangsyne?Chorus:Anddaysofauldlangsyne,mydear,Anddaysofauldlangsyne,Shouldoldacquaintancebeforgot,Anddaysofauldlangsyne?Andthere’sahand,mytrustyfriend,Andgi’sahando’thine,We’lltakeacupofo’kindnessyet,Forauldlangsyne.Chorus:Forauldlangsyne,mydear,Forauldlangsyne,We’lltakeacupofo’kindnessyet,Forauldlangsyne.
