被哈佛大学公共政策硕士（MPP）录取的学生的一篇PSStatementofPurposeProposedProgram:MasterofPublicPolicyatHarvardUniversityChina’srisingentrepreneurialspiritandeconomicgrowtharenothingnewtomeformyhometownofShanxiProvinceiswidelyregardedinChinaasoneofthemostfamoussourcesofentrepreneurialtalentandbusinesssuccessesanywhereinmynation.ShanxibusinessmenarefamousforhavingestablishedthefirstbankingsystemsinChinaanddirectingtheirnaturalbusinessflairandcreativitytowardnewpotentialmarketsandmakinggooduseofdifferentpoliticalpolicies,eventsandsituationstoachievetheirbusinessgoals.Thisprovincehasahistoryofoverfourhundredsofcultivatingandexportingentrepreneurialtalentandevenuntilthelast60yearsinChina,ShanxibusinessleadersstillcontrolledmuchofChina’spoliticalandeconomicpower.HavinggrownupwithsuchanhonorabletraditionandhistoryasmybackgroundIhaveonlynaturallyinheritedasimilarsenseofdeterminationandinteresttostudythedelicaterelationshipbetweenmoney,powerandsocialdevelopment.MydecisiontoseekagraduateeducationmajoringinPublicpolicyisdirectlylinkedtomyfuturecareergoalsthathaveformedthroughmypastseveralyearsofacademicandprofessionalexposures.Iaspiretobecomesomeonewhocouldturnsuchalinkandpowertogoodfortheentiresociety,whichiswhyIamdedicatedinthepursuitofacareerworkingwithamajorinternationalinstitutionsupportingglobaldevelopmentsuchastheWorldBankoramajorconsultingfirmspecializingininternationalpoliticalandeconomicdevelopment.IbelievethatitwouldbehighlyrewardingtoplayadirectroleintheresearchbehindortheactualdecisionmakingintopolicycreationforthekeyinternationalpoliticalplayersandIamconfidentofmyqualities,characteristicsandexperiencetofulfillsucharole.Ifeelveryfortunatethatasatop10%rankingstudent(Irankin3rdplaceoutof25studentswithaGPAof3.6/4.0)attendingRenminUniversityofChina’sundergraduateInternationalPoliticalEconomyprogram,Ihavebeenrewardedwithnumerousscholarshipprizesastestamenttomysolidacademicrecord.ForexampleIhaverepeatedlyearnedmyalmamater’sOutstandingStudentAwardandevenreceivedtheprestigious‘AustralianKingsonFellowship’inMarch2005forreceivingatop1%scoreinthisannualprovincialcompetitionoutofmorethan150,000students.Inaddition,Ihaveearnedsizeableanduniqueresearchandlearningexperiencesoverthepastfewyears.Forexample,asidefrommyawardofnumerousacademicaccoladesandscholarshipsforoutstandingperformance,Ihavealsobeenselectedtorepresentmyalmamateratthe“GlobalPolitics:Challenge,Opportunity,CrisesandConcept”seminarheldbyFreiUniversityofBerlininthesummerof2004.Thiswasatrulyeye-openingexperienceforme,whichalsohelpedmetobroadenmycross-culturalexperiencesandteamworkamidadiversesetofcolleaguesattendingtheseminar.MysoundacademicperformanceinwhichIhaveachievedsolidgradesinsuchcoursesasMarxismandPoliticalEconomics,InternationalBusinessandFinance,AsiaPacificPoliticsandEconomics,Sino-ForeignEconomicsRelationship,andInternationalRelations,hasalsobroughtmetotheattentionofhigherfigureswithinmyalmamater’sCentreforEuropeanStudies,wheresincemid-2006IhaveservedasaResearchAssistantinanumberofresearchstudies.Forexample,onepaperthatIhavecompletedregardedthe“StudyofEuropeanCommonForeignandSecurityPolicy”andwastrulyenlighteningwithrespecttothechanceitgavemetolearnaboutdifferentpoliticalbeliefsandpoliciesinthewesternworldcomparedwiththoseinChinathatIhadstudiedintheclassroom.WhileIhavecertainlyfeltconsiderablepressuretocombinemyacademic,researchandsocialinterestsduringthecourseofmyundergraduatestudies,IfeelthatIhaveachievedabalanceddevelopmentthatincludesastrongdegreeofextracurricularinvolvement.Forexample,IamproudtoinitiatetheModelUnitedNationsprograminmyuniversity.IalsohavehonoredtobeselectedastheHeadDelegateoftheRenminUniversityofChinaStudentTeamattendingthe2005HarvardNationalNationalModelUnitedNationsinBoston,USAandinwhichIcoordinatedandimplementedintercollegiateexchangeprogramsandhelpedtoseekoutcorporatesponsorshipcampaignstocoverourcosts.ThroughmyprofoundinvolvementinthisactivityIwasabletocreatedandexecuteeffectivestrategiesthathavecertainlyenhancedmyalmamater’snetworkwiththeinternationalcorporatesectorandbroughtnotonlynewfundingtosupportouractivities,butalsoandmoreimportantlyagreaternumberofinternshipandresearchopportunitiesforstudentstoenjoy.Ontheotherhand,IhavealsoheldtheroleofSecretary-GeneraloftheFirstModelUnitedNationsheldbyRenminUniversityofChinainNovember2005,whereIplannedandorganizedthissignificantconferencethatbroughttogether80studentteamstoparticipateinwhatbecameasuccessfulintra-campusactivity.Furthermore,IamproudtohavebeentheelectedVicePresidentofmyalmamater’sStudentsUnionthatalsoinvolvedworkastheEditor-in-Chiefofmyuniversity’sstudent-runnewspaper.TheeffectiveliaisonrolesandleadershipexperiencesthatIgainedinmyextracurricularactivitieshavebeeninvaluableinmylaterprojectmanagementexperiencesinaprofessionalresearchcapacity.DespitethemanyrewardingexperiencesIhaveenjoyedoverthecourseofthepastthreeyears,themostsignificantandinspiringhasbeenmyinvolvementwithCOFCO(ChinaNationalCereals,Oil&FoodstuffsCorp),thelargestfood,cereals,oilsandfoodstuffsgroupinChina,whichisrankedamongt
