ASNT’sRecommendedPracticeNo.SNT-TC-1AIncorporatesACCP1MaterialsEvaluation/October1998ASNTRecommendedPracticeNo.SNT-TC-1A:QualificationandCertificationofNondestructivePersonnel,publishedin1968,wasthefirstdocumentwithsignificantimpactonqualifica-tionsofNDTpersonnelinindustry.Thisdocumentisstillwidelyusedbymanyemployersworldwide.SNT-TC-1Aprovidesaguide-lineforemployerstodevelopawrittenpracticeforqualificationandcertificationoftheirNDTpersonnel.ASNThasrecentlyamendedSNT-TC-1Abyspecifyinganalternativeprocessbywhichemploy-ersmayqualifyNDTpersonnel.TheadditionalparagraphshavebeenaddedtoclarifytheintentofSNT-TC-1Ainallowingthecre-dentialsobtainedbypassingtheexaminationsoftheASNTCentralCertificationProgram(ACCP)tofulfillthecorrespondingexamina-tioncriteriarequiredbySNT-TC-1AforLevelsI,II,andIIIintheap-plicableNDTmethods.Asshownbelow,thechangestothe1996edi-tionofSNT-TC-1AalsowillapplytoallpreviouseditionsofSNT-TC-1A,andtheywillbeincorporatedinthenew2000editionofthisdocument.Bychangingtherelatedstatementsintheirwrittenpractice,employersmayacceptportionsofthenewACCPaswellasACCPinitsentirety.NDTLevelIIIExaminationsAvalidendorsementofanACCPProfessionalLevelIIIcertifi-catefulfillsthisexaminationcriteriadescribedinparagraphs8.8(1)and8.8(2)foreachapplicableNDTmethod.PreviouslychangestoSNT-TC-1ArecognizedtheASNTNDTLevelIIIcertificateasmeetinggeneralqualificationrequirementstotheextentspecifiedinanemployerÕswrittenpractice.Thenewamendmentsprovideemployerswithadditionalchoicesandgreaterflexibilitysotheycantailorthecertificationcriteriatotheirexactneeds.TheseadditionalparagraphsclarifySNT-TC-1AÕsintenttoallowemployerstoacknowledgecandidatesthathavetakenspe-cificportionsofeithertheASNTNDTLevelIIIorACCPexamina-tionsthatmeettheemployerÕsrevisedwrittenpractice.NewPatents1998ADDENDATOTHEAMERICANSOCIETYFORNONDESTRUCTIVETESTINGRECOMMENDEDPRACTICENO.SNT-TC-1AChanges:8.7.AdditionalWritten,Specific,andPracticalExaminationCriteria8.7.1LevelI,II,andIIIWrittenExaminations.(1)AllLevelI,II,andIIIwrittenexaminationsshouldbeclosedbookex-ceptthatnecessarydata,suchasgraphs,tables,specifications,proce-dures,codes,etc.,maybeprovidedwithorintheexamination.Ques-tionsutilizingsuchreferencematerialsshouldrequireanunderstandingoftheinformationratherthanmerelylocatingtheap-propriateanswer.AllquestionsusedforLevelIandLevelIIexamina-tionsshouldbeapprovedbytheresponsibleLevelIII.(2)AvalidendorsementonanACCPLevelIorLevelIIcertificatefulfillsthecorrespondingexaminationcriteriadescribedinparagraphs8.3and8.5foreachapplicableNDTmethod.(3)Theemployermaydeletethespecificexamination(paragraph8.4)ifthecandidatehasavalidACCPcertificate,providedtheexaminationsadministeredmeetthetechnicalneedsoftheemployer.8.7.2LevelIandIISpecificExaminationsTheemployermaydeletethespecificexaminationifthecandidatehasavalidACCPLevelIorLevelIIcertificateinthemethodandifdocument-edexperienceexiststopermitsuch.8.7.3PracticalExaminationsSuccessfulcompletionofACCPLevelIorLevelIIGeneralHands-OnPracticalexaminationsmaybeconsideredasfulfillingtherequirementsofparagraphs8.3and8.5respectively.8.8.NDTLevelIIIExaminations(5)AvalidendorsementofanACCPProfessionalLevelIIIcertificateful-fillsthisexaminationcriteriadescribedinparagraphs8.8(1)and8.8(2)foreachapplicableNDTmethod.½
