*Despiteglobalshiftsinworldpower,racialconflictremainsoneofthemajorproblemsofcontemporarysociallife.*Racialconflictusuallyreferstoaseriesofquarrelsorevenattacksbetweendifferentraces.*Mainlyhappensbetweencoloredandothers.**Whyconflictsalwaysexist?*Whypeoplediscriminatecolored?**SlaveTrade*TheAtlanticslavetradetookplaceacrosstheAtlanticoceanfromthe16ththroughtothe19thcenturies.ThevastmajorityofslavestransportedtotheNewWorldwereAfricans,soldbyAfricanstoEuropeanslavetraderswhothentransportedthemtothecolonies,inNorthandSouthAmerica.*Aslaveshiploadedwiththefirearmsandammunitionandcheapconsumergoodsforexchangeslaves,startingfromtheEuropeanport,sailedtothecoastofWestAfrica;Alargenumberofslavesinexchangeofgoodsinthewestcoast,thensailedacrosstheAtlanticforAmerica;ColonialrawmaterialsandgoldsilverbyslavesintheAmericas,backtoEurope.Triangletrade1、InNorthAmerica,theyworkedasslaves2、InSorthAmerica,theyworkedforplantationSometimestheywereinjusticetreatedorevenmaltreated.Blackslavesweretheslaveowners'privateproperty,theylikeanimalsandwerepurchasedtodosomehardwork,therewasnofreedomforthem.***InAmerica,theracialdiscriminationiseverywhere,theracialconflictoftenhappen,theblackpeoplearetreatedasSlavesbywhitepeople,theyoftenhavethelowestsalary,insuranceandmanyUnfairtreatment.*Dr.MartinLutherKing*AgreatleaderDr.MartinLutherKing,anAmercianPoliticalactivistandthemostfamousleaderoftheAmericancivilrightsmovement.*Hewasconsideredapeacemakerthroughouttheworldforhispromotionofnonviolenceandequaltreatmentfordifferentraces.*HereceivedtheNobelPeacePrizein1968.Hismostinfluentialandwell-knownspeechistheIhaveadream.Wemustacceptfinitedisappointment,butneverloseinfinitehope.Darknesscannotdriveoutdarkness;onlylightcandothat.Hatecannotdriveouthate;onlylovecandothat.Ihaveadreamthatonedaythisnationwillriseupandliveoutthetruemeaningofitscreed:--Weholdthesetruthstobeself-evident,thatallmenarecreatedequal.IhaveadreamTheconflictbetweennorthandsouth:AlthoughLincoln,whomfromthenorthernrepublican,wasnottheadvocateofliberatingtheslaves,hethoughtslaverywasinhumanity,andheopposedexpandingslavery.ButintheSouth,whichalwayswithslavestodevelopitsindustry,feltstronglyopposed.In1860,AbrahamLincolnwaselectedPresident,andhementionedintheplatformwhichisprotectingtariffand“TheHomesteadAct”greatlyharmedtheinterestsofsouthernslaveowner.Twomonthslater,thesoutherngovernmentstartedtorebal,thenortherngovernmenthadtoacceptthebattel,thecivilwarbegantoerupted.**AbrahamLincolnTheCivilwar,inwhichtheNorthwon.Afterthecivilwar,PresidentLincolnissuedtheTheEmancipationProclamation“(解放奴隶宣言).Shortlyafterthecivilwar,Lincolnwasassassinated.*NelsonMandela(formerpresident,fatherofSouthAfrica)*NelsonMandelawasborninSouthAfrica.From1994to1999,hewasthefirstblackpresidenttofSouthAfrica.**Beforehispresidency,Mandelawasanactiveantiapartheid(反种族隔离),andtheleaderofthearmedforcesofthenationalassemblyoftheAfricanNationalcongress.Whenheledacampaignagainstapartheid,theSouthAfricancourtconvictedhimofconspiringtooverthrowthegovernment.*Accordingtothesentence,Mandelaserved27yearsinprison.Releasedfromprisonin1990,inturntosupportmediationandconsultation,andpromotethetransitiontomultiethnicdemocracyinthetransitionperiodtoleadSouthafrica.Sincetheendofapartheid,Mandelahasreceivedpraisefromallwalksoflife,includingformeropponents.*Mandelahaswonmorethanonehundredawardsinthepast40years,themostnotableofwhichisthe1993Nobelpeaceprize.In2004,itwaschosenasthegreatestSouthAfrican.1、Themindoftheracialdiscriminationexistinmanywhitepeople'sminds.Theyalwaystreattheblackpeopleasslavesorthinkthemascriminals.2、Someoftheblackpeoplebecomelazyandcrazy,theydon'tworkanddoharmfulthingstothesociety,suchasrobbing,stealingandkillingpeople.3、Thegovernmentdon'tpaymoreattentionontheracialdiscrimination,sometimestheymaybedeprivetheblackpeople'srightstomaintainthewhitepeople'srights.Whyracialdiscriminationissoserious?*Nowadays,theracialdiscriminationisn’tjustbetweenthewhiteandtheblack,manyotherracesarediscriminatedbythelocalpeopleandtheydon’thaverighttoprotectthemselves.RacialConflictinGlobalSocietyprovidesstimulatinginsightsintothebasicfactorsunderlyingracialconflictandconsensusintheearlydecadesofthetwenty-firstcentury.Itisessentialreadingforscholarsandstudentsacrossthesocialandpoliticalsciences,managementandinternationalrelations.RecommendedbookWehavealongwaytogoButwemustbelieve:Loveiscolorblind
