ProjectPlanDefinitionThereareanumberofprojectplantemplatesavailableongantthead.com.Registeredmemberscandownloadthissample.Premiummemberscandownloadthissample.PurposeTheProjectPlanformalizesthefollowing:•AgreementbetweentheExecutiveSponsorandProjectManager•Projectpurpose•Businessandprojectgoalsandobjectives•Scopeandexpectations•Rolesandresponsibilities•Assumptionsandconstraints•QualityManagementapproach•ProjectManagementapproach•GroundrulesfortheprojectComponentsEachProjectPlancomponentisessentiallyaworkproductresultingfromsubtasksintheMakePlanProjectManagementtask,butcanberevisedduringotherprojectmanagementactivities.Itisimportanttodocumentallparametersthatwillhaveanimpactontheproject,itsplanningandexecution.1I.IntroductionPurposeofthePlanStatethepurposeoftheProjectPlan.IndicateinashortstatementthatthePlanwillprovideadefinitionoftheproject,includingthebusinessgoalsandobjectives.Inaddition,statethatthePlanisancontractbetweentheProjectManager,ExecutiveSponsor,ProjectTeamandothermanagementoftheenterpriseassociatedwithand/oraffectedbytheproject.BackgroundInformationabouttheProjectDescribetheprojecthistory.Includeinformationsuchaspreviousinitiatives,businessenvironmentchanges(mayberelatedtocompetition,regulation,resourceavailability),andtheimpetusandrationalefortheproject.Describe,inessence,howtheprojectcameabout.ProjectApproachExplainhowthevariousbehavioralandteammanagementtechniques,methodologyandtaskstructurewillbeutilizedmosteffectivelytomeettherequirementsandobjectivesoftheproject.Statewhichdevelopmentpathwaschosentocompletetheprojectandthereasonfortheselection.Identifythe“character”oftheproject(standard,pathfinder,demonstration,etc.).2II.GoalsandObjectivesBusinessGoalsandObjectivesGoalsandObjectivesaredefinedasfollows:Goal:Agoalisanaspirationofthecompanythatstatesadirectioninwhichthecompanywillfocusitseffortsinsupportofitsmission.Objective:Objectivesareshort-termtargets(typically12-24monthsorless)ofdefined,measurableachievement.IntheBusinessGoalsandObjectivessection,identifythecorporategoalsandobjectivesthattheprojectintendstosupport,aswellashowtheyaremeasured.Sometypicalbusinessobjectivesare:•Decreasecosts,errors,reworksbyaspecificpercentage•Decreaseprocessingorturnaroundtimesbyaspecificpercentage•Increaseproductivityorcapacitybyaspecificpercentage•Eliminatebacklogsbyaspecificpercentage•Increasemarketsharebyaspecificpercentage•Reduceriskbyaspecificpercentage•Complywithregulatoryrequirements(avoidfinesorpenalties)•ProvidebetteraccesstodataneededfordecisionmakingwithinaspecifictimelimitProjectGoalsandObjectivesStatethegoalsandobjectivesexpectedtobeachievedasaresultofimplementingtheproject,anddescribehowmeetingthemwillsupportthecorporateobjectivesandgoals.Setprojectobjectivesbyestablishingwhytheprojecthasbeencommissionedandwhatitisexpectedtoachievefortheenterprise.Identifythespecificresultstoberealizedandthebenefitstobeachieved.Becertaintoestablishthetimeframeinwhichtheobjectivesareexpectedtobemet.Defineavisiblemethodtomonitorandmeasureprogressinmeetingtheobjectives.3III.ScopeAclearandconcisedefinitionofscopeiskeytothesuccessofanyproject.Scopeshoulddescribefromaquantitativeperspectivewhatistobeaccomplished.Itspurposeistoaidinestablishingrealisticworkplans,budgets,schedules,andexpectations.Shouldidentifiedworkarisethatfallsoutsidethedefinedscope,theProjectManagermusteitherdeemtheworkoutofscopeanddeferit,orexpandthescopeoftheprojecttoincludethework.Thelatterchoicewouldresultinformalchangestotheworkplan,resourceallocation,budgetand/orschedule.ScopeDefinitionStatespecificallywhatworkwillbedoneandwhichpartsoftheenterprisewillandwillnotbeincludedintheproject.Iftheprojectispartofaphasedapproach,itmayincludedeliverablesfromthepreviousstageandthescopedefinedbywhichobjectswillbefurtherdefinedanddeveloped.FocusonthecomponentsidentifiedwithintheProjectPlanScopeDefinition.Definethescopeoftheprojectbydeterminingwhichcriteriaconstitutesmaintenanceoftheproduct.Thiswillpreventtheoccurrenceof“scopecreep”andnever-endingprojects.Scopedefinitionshouldidentify:•Thearchitecturalcomponentsinvolved•Thepartsoftheenterpriseincludedintheproject•Theenterpriselocationstobeincluded•ThetypesofinformationhandlingandtheirassociatedtechnologiestobeincludedCosts,BenefitsandRisksThisisthefinancialscopeoftheproject.BrieflystatethecostsandbenefitsassociatedwiththeprojectandincludeareferencetotheProjectBudgetReportand/orCostBenefitAnalysisReportintheattachedAppendix.IntheCostssectionincludethecostofadministrativetime,meetingsandprojectmanagementtasktime.IncludeadescriptionoftheRiskManagementapproachtobeusedontheprojectandrefertotheRiskAssessmentcontainedinanProjectPlanAppendix.TheRiskManagementTechniquewithinArchitectcanprovidethefoundationforstructuringsuchanapproach.ARiskAssessmentshouldbeperformedandthefindingsshouldbeattachedasadocumentintheProjectPlanAppendix.TheRiskAssessmentisconcernedwithidentifying,characterizing,prioritizinganddecidingwhethertoaccepttheexposureassociatedwitheachriskthatthreatenstheproject’sabilitytomeetitsobjectiveswithi
